I loved this book when I read it in the late 80s. I wonder if I will like it now?

There are some small, yet at times significant changes in the book from the movie. You get background on almost every student, some more than others. The author's style of writing is interesting, sometimes making it seem as if the character is having a conversation with them self in their heads. Overall, a great book to an even better movie.

I don't care what anyone says about Dershowitz - the man's coonviction is amazing. See how he justifies criminal defense.

Three stars may not be fair. I had company at the end of this book and therefore read it very sporadically, sort of killing the momentum. Up to then, I really liked it. Nice historical mystery. I'm willing to go back to the beginning and read the first in the series.

Wow - I really loved this book. It's one of those you hate to finish. I highly recommend.

A series of witty essays from 2000 and 2001. One one or so past 9/11 makes for a sort of eerie foreshadowing of then-upcoming events. Most deal with patriotism and America's place in history, as she sees it. I really enjoy her writing.

Not as laugh out loud funny as the first, but still pretty enjoyable. And I definitely felt more for Gregory this time (as you'll recall, I thought he was something of a jerk, albeit a hilarious jerk, the first time around). Now, if Rodrick gets what's coming to him in the next book (a knuckle sandwich), I will feel satisfied.

In Bunker Archeology, urban philosopher and cultural theorist Paul Virilio turns his attention—and camera—to the ominous yet strangely compelling German bunkers from WW II that lie abandoned on the coast of France. These ghostly reminders of destruction and oppression prompt Virilio to consider the nature of war and existence, in relation to both the Second World War and contemporary times. This is the first English-language translation of the French edition published in 1975 to accompany the exhibition of Paul Virilio's photographs at the Pompidou Center. The author's haunting photographs are accompanied by his analysis of the architecture of war in both philosophical and concrete terms. Virilio discusses fortresses and military space in general and the bunkers themselves, including facsimiles of original military maps and extracts from Hitler's "Directives of War." He also examines the role of Albert Speer, Hitler's architect, in the rise of the Third Reich. Paul Virilio is a renowned urbanist, political theorist, and art critic.
An interesting ghost story told from the point of view of--you guessed it--the ghost. Helen has not been able to cross over into the light and is condemned to darkenss, unless she can attach herself to a human "host." She clings to her various hosts, who are all writers, until it is time to move on to the next one. Some of her hosts are famous literary figures, including Emily Dickinson (the title is taken from a Dickinson poem). After she falls in love with a kindred spirit (literally) named James, who has taken over a human body, she decides to possess a body herself so she can consummate her physical passion for James. The only problem is that she is now in the body of the daughter of fundamentalist Christian parents who scrutinize and control her every move. This story has some flaws--the fundamentalist Christian parents are one dimensional and the writing is occasionally unexceptional--but the story is fascinating and teens will love this supernatural love story.
