It was a bit slow for me. I really liked the character of Isabel Archer. On the shelf to read again someday.

Compelling read! Well-researched, realistic historical fiction takes you into the world of Judas and Mary Magdalene. Reminiscent of The Da Vinci Code, only it introduces the other side of the family.

Essential reading for your comics/graphic novel education. I imagine reading it at the time of its publication would have been mind-blowing, but by now (2009) it seems a lot of comics conventions have already been played with.

Grabbed this off the shelves out of boredom, and enjoyed it very much. I could totally see the world the author was creating, and found the plot twists very surprising. I have not yet read the Artemis Fowl books by the same author, but since I liked this so much I might give them a try.

I found this book at www.gutenberg.org as I was wasting time scrolling through the virtual stacks. It is an account of two ladies, sisters I believe who move their household to the country after one is widowed. They farm and raise their own animals - pigs, poultry and rabbits. The saga of learning how to make decent butter was actually very interesting. I never realized there was so much to making butter. If you've ever had fantasies of living in the country and raising your own food - here's what it was like (a hundred years ago). I found this book at the same time I saw Barbara Kingsolver's Animal Vegetable Miracle at the Waldenbooks - she and her family set out to the country to do just what these two ladies did. Except I am assuming Ms. Kingsolver didn't have servants like these two ladies did.

This is a fun and exciting read. From the day I first started reading it, I wondered where it had been all my life. Answer: It hadn't been written yet!

I think The Weetzie Bat Books are of the WORST books I ever read. In my very personal opinion, the problem’s not the story per se, but the way it’s written with conceptual language and descriptively what makes it terrible. It’s a book where they want to take youth and understand topics like: homosexuality, VIH and different relation frames. The point is that the story’s language and the way it’s narrated sucks. It is my understanding as an educator that youngsters can be able to understand a message without ornamenting it with so much crap. I’m one of the readers that try to look for something positive in every book, and from my 400+ book collection, this is the only one that actually ended down in the trash. Peace Doxys

This is my favorite book of all time. I cried so hard at the end. It's hard to believe that this is her first novel. Everyone should read this.
Was hoping for a little more with this book. Some of the stories were great, while others (especially the last two) were just mediocre.
Michael K is a peculiar character...the book all about him. He belongs to a very primitive era - he has no appetite for food, has no passion for anything at all expect gardening. Coetzee takes us through his life using the South African turmoil as a background. Its an intense book - gloomy at times. He refuses to eat even when all lfet in his body is bitter bones - one may think that he doesn't want to live but that is not true. He discovers it later towards the end of the book. When I started reading I expected much more from Coetzee, having read Disgrace and Slow Man. You expect something significant to happen but nothing ever does other than Micheal finding his purpose of life. But still its a commendable literary piece particularly because of Coetzee's writing style.
