This book is filled with the kind of corporate optimism that leaves some people absolutely flat; no surprise there. If you can get past the affect, however, this book is quite useful. Allen's job for 20 years has been training knowledge workers how to organize their life. I'd especially recommend this book to anyone moving or graduating, as many of the tips he has are easier implemented if you are ready for change and can can re-design your whole office space. It also helps if there's a ray of anal-retentiveness peering down into your soul.

Really? I find all of Dan Brown's books totally unbelievable because so much happens in mere hours. 500 pages for 10 hours? I wanted to like this book because the author has clearly done a lot of research & makes some good points & has some cool ideas, but seriously.....could an old man whose hand was cut off & a 40 year old man who just breathed in liquid whatever & was reborn? & a 40 year old girl who just nearly bled to death really stay up until dawn running all over town trying to figure out the meaning of life?

After almost a two-decade love of Frederick Buechner, I picked up another of his novels. I listed some of his books in "Books that changed me and the way I think." I rank his autobiographical trilogy (The Sacred Journey, Now and Then, and Telling Secrets) with the likes of Thomas Merton's The Seven Story Mountain. I love the way that Buechner writes, the pictures he paints, and the characters he builds--and the stories he tells, because for Buechner it is the story that is so important. And although I wouldn't nominate The Storm as one of the best novella's ever, it was a very enjoyable read and felt a little like sitting down with an old friend. A modern paraphrase of Shakespeare's Tempest, The Storm takes place on the exclusive Plantation Island during just that -- a storm. And as in all Buechner's novels, there is so much deeper to go with the metaphors and stories if you wish. I don't think you can go wrong with Frederick Buechner. And I recommend The Storm along with all the rest.
Can't wait for the movie.
this poetry is amazing. the report on the babies made me laugh outloud. i wish i knew more about the poet.

This was an amazing book that made me sit back and say "wow". The premise: that the history of the Americas before 1492 deserves far more attention from popular society than the nine pages it is given in the average high school history textbook. I learned things that blew away my prior notions of the size of American societies before Columbus, the scale of the epidemics that wiped them out, and the scope of their impacts on the environment. Any book that tells tales of vast, heretofore unknown civilizations; reacquaints you with one of the great tragedies of history in a heartbreaking, visceral, and yet well-balanced way; and makes you reassess your understanding of a concept as fundamental as "wilderness" is a must read, in my opinion. For a popular history, I thought it was very well researched and documented, with an extensive reading list and lots of endnotes (my only quibble - no footnotes). The writing, while dense with information, was entertaining and evocative, and even witty. If only books like this came along every day.
European-based thriller with all the usual elements. Fast paced and moved along to an exciting climax.

This is certainly one of the best intermediate economics texts written.
i loved reading this book. i love learning about new religions and this was a perfect way to learn abotu one. the author converts to become part of the vodou community and its cool to walk through her process while she writes about it. its as if you, yourself are converting to this religion too.

Este es un libro tan divertido, conmovedor y terriblemente triste. Es difícil creer que sea una historia real, Frank McCourt y su familia pasaron por mucho cuando eran niños.
