I'm always somewhat conflicted regarding No Man's Land. Why? Well, the situation we're dealing with here - Gotham City being abandoned and declared a No Man's Land after it's been almost completely destroyed by an earthquake - is extremely contrived, and it always takes me a bit to get over that (and yes, even though the chapters in which Superman tries to help do make their point, it's also very hard to believe the JLA and everybody else don't just repair everything right away). But once you get over that, you get some really great stories about the people who stay there (and some not-so-great ones; I'm not that fond of the the Huntress-and-Batman-bits). Among my favorites are Renee Montoya, her family and Two-Face, plus the story where Clark comes to Gotham, but the centerpiece of No Man's Land is the Batman-Gordon-Gotham relationship, that is both Batman's relationship with Gotham, Gordon's relationship with Gotham and - the most heartbreaking one - Batman's relationship with Gordon, culminating in a scene that never fails to touch me. Sigh. Another high point is what Bruce does during the final hours of No Man's Land, or rather, the result of his manipulations. I love it when he uses the Brucie persona like that. So even though there are bits where I'm reading it going "meh" (especially because the art is for the most part bearable at best), there are enough really interesting moments that the fourth star is well-earned. I do hate the ending for Gordon, though, really, really, really hate it because it makes a point that doesn't need to be made, in my opinion.

Lời Nói Dối Tháng Tư - Tập 08 Thư viện Sách hướng dẫn

Can Lisa Marie Rice write a bad book? I don't think so. All I know is her heroes make me tingle in the most delicious way! "A Fine Specimen" is her latest e-book. It's an expanded version of her 2000 Zebra book "Taming Nick" under the name Elizabeth Jennings and it's guaranteed to raise your blood pressure in the best way. Caitlin is a grad student working on her dissertation in law enforcement psychology. Her last project is a hands-on study and when her favorite instructor sets her up in his old precinct, she's thrilled. Then she meets the de facto boss of said precinct and everything female in her wakes up for the first time in her fairly sheltered life. Alex is Alpha from his head to his toes. His department finally has a way to bring down a crime lord and he's eating and sleeping the case until they do. Then in walks a woman who will turn his world upside-down...and she looks like a kid. Thank God she's not or he would have to arrest himself! But Alex has some serious issues with his past and to 'get the girl', he'll have to face his worst nightmare. I think I'm still sweating. This is one hot story and the expansion only makes it better. The lead characters are, at first glance, opposites. But the more you read, the more you realize they have more in common than even they know. And together? Well, they're the perfect fit. Ms. Rice can write some of the best smoking hot romance I've ever read. Her characters have quirks and personalities that become real to the reader and this, in turn, causes the reader to invest a bit of themselves in the outcome. Even though this is an earlier work, it's still one that you'll want on your bookshelf (or computer).

2+/2.5 I know that there are quite a few people who appreciate it, but A Quick Bite is (supposed to be) a fun PNR novel and I like my PNR and Urban Fantasy darker. Not too dark, but a bit 'more' than this one. The plot isn't bad, the characters are okay, but there are several things that, I think, justify my low rating: 1. It was too obvious who the villain would be. It'd be okay to know that if the romance was very intense, but: 2. There was no chemistry. Greg was an okay guy and Lissiana's a nice person, too but I liked her family more than the whole romance-part. 3. Sands overdid things. It seemed like she tried too hard. The concept was quite new, not your typical "Vampires: How they've been created 101" and if the writing would've appealed more to me, if the couple was a bit more 'real', well, then I'd certainly have enjoyed the book very much. But that wasn't the case and although I did enjoy it enough to finish it and even read the third book (I accidently read the second book first *headdesk*), I wouldn't pay money for the books. (Books like this one I often from a friend) If you're looking for a light read, this book'll be the right thing. I think Katie McAlister fans might enjoy it, too, but I'm not sure. I disliked similiar things in both of them, which sounds evil I just noticed, but it's how I feel about the books. :/ Don't shoot.
