Just picking up this book was a lesson learned. First I was afraid my parents would find out I was reading it. Then I was afraid that Dawkins would open some door of reality for me that would force me to renege everything I've ever believed. Neither happened, but along the way I finally found my voice and figured out how to explain to my parents that I wasn't comfortable with just going with the flow of what I was taught in 3rd grade Sunday School. Dawkins kind of annoyed me - he became rather argumentative and persuasive in his efforts to turn everyone into an Atheist. And his history seemed a bit shaky. Occasionally it seemed as if he collaborated with that darn Dan Brown. Now if they make a movie of this with Tom Hanks, I'll really eat my words.

This was an amazing and eye opening book!
Not bad for a YA novel that doesn't seem to realize that it's technology is completely crap (except for those hoverboards -- the hoverboards are pretty cool). Most of my "technology issues" have to do with the surgery itself. Mostly, because it doesn't make any sense (if the characters have surgery to reconstruct their face and make them pretty, then how are they still recognizable to the uglies who run into them later?), but also because it sounds too disgusting and cruel to be even remotely appealing to anyone who doesn't suffer from mental retardation. So, crap technology knocks off a star. Another star is knocked off because I had a difficult time getting emotionally involved with any of the characters. The best character of the bunch is the villain, the diabolical Dr. Cable, and she only stands out because she's painted to be so inarguably evil that she has to stand out amongst the other characters, who are all so normal and undefined. This book gets the three stars I give it for some nice plot twists and a killer ending. Similar to the books in the Twilight series, nothing much happens in this book until the last hundred pages or so, but that final one hundred is completely riveting.
This ghost story was not how I expected. Not scary, more dramatic than anything with creepy Southern traditions and dark family secrets. I liked this book way more than I expected. I'm glad it didn't fall heavily onto romance.

When I actually got into this book, it was amazing... I love what happens in it, despite how it'd be a horrible tragedy in real life. It's strange talking to my English teacher, and thinking to myself that the man in this book is described as horribly arrogant, cold, and pretty much tortures women. I can't help liking this person on the inside because I know this subtleness to his personality that's really underlined in what ends up happening. I just love that the point it's making is such a deep, complex, personal thing. It's interesting that he says people are allowed to happiness, but don't ever take it to the full degree they could. No matter how positive minded someone is, it doesn't change that life is built on negative things, which would make eternal happiness totally surreal and foreign. Everybody could have whatever they wanted if they put enough effort into getting and maintaining it, but that's too much for the human mind to constantly bare. I also wonder if that's what artists really sound like to another person. This man basically describes where his paintings came from (life experiences), and really indulges in things like light and memorable scenes, but it sounds obsessive. It's similar to the way the girl in Oystercatchers thinks, but she never becomes an artist or takes up art at all.
This is suspensefull book I received from a friend, I couldn't put it down!
I was truly disappointed. I wanted it to be good. I wanted to be interested. I couldn't make it.
