For my money Le Carre is by far the master of the spy story.

I don't generally give a book I assume to be a chick-lit 5 stars (unless it includes cupcake recipes - as I have a weak spot for cupcakes!) as I see them as mindless reading fun rather than something that makes me think beyond the inevitable romantic conclusion. However, I don't think Bad Sisters is an ordinary chick-lit, if it falls into that category at all. While it certainly contains romantic relationships (and very sexy scenes) it's also filled with suspense, intrigue, drama and a generous dose of mystery that puts the reader's brain cells at work. The novel tells the story of three sisters: Deeley, Devon and Maxie. Despite having come from a very poor and rather dubious background each of the sisters has worked their way up in life (although Deeley didn't do an awful lot of work to get where she is) and made something of themselves. They seem to lead perfect and glamorous lives, but they each have been carrying a heavy burden since they were little more than children in the shape of a big secret. The three main characters have very different personalities and author Rebecca Chance manages to make all three of them believable and intriguing. Even if you don't feel fond of a character per se, you still want to know what happens in her life next as there seems to be a twist around every corner. Maxie is the ambitious one that studied at Oxford and is the real reason that her intelligence lacking husband is working his way up in parliament. Devon is a celebrity cook married to a celebrity sportsman and finds more comfort in her food than she does in her marriage. And Deeley is the young and (more or less) free spirited sister that after having lived in Los Angeles for five years returns to London and tries to reconnect with her estranged sisters which, while unintended, sets the wheels of the story into motion. The novel is well put together, laced with secrets that makes the reader want to turn the next page as fast as possible. Add to that the glamour and glitz descriptions of clothes, food and very steamy scenes and you have yourself a fabulous read.

I first came across the bizarre quantum phenomenon known as "Entanglement" while reading a book called The Large, the Small and the Human Mind by Roger Penrose, then I lost it at some point. In desperation I started to search other resources and found this book called ENTANGLEMENT: The Greatest Mystery in Physics by science author Amir Aczel. Aczel describes Quantum Entanglement as follows: "Entanglement is a superposition state of the states of two or more particles, taken as one system. Spatial separation as we know it seems to evaporate with respect to such system. Two particles that can be miles, or light years, apart may behave in a concerted way: what happens to one of them happens to the other one instantaneously, regardless of the distance between them. " Good book, served the purpose, certainly enhanced my understanding of Quantum Entanglement. However scientific flow was frequently disrupted by lengthy life stories of Physicists. Thereby the focus was lost and reading became excruciatingly hard -one wonders could this be more of a science history book rather than a book about Entanglement-. Also some of experiments weren't explained well despite pictures. 2.5 out of 5.

This seems pretty demonstrative of a thesis novel, even from DFW. Feels somewhat imitative of Pynchon and Gaddis. Contains all the wonderful language DFW will later develop, all the philosophical conundra and catch-22s his characters typically get involved with, but isn't not the most representative work, nor the most cohesive.

So far I am halfway through this book and can't seem to put it down. I am loving it. I am both reading and listening to it. The lady who reads the book is very easy to listen to she also reads very well and reading it very easy too.

This is one of those books that I think I've read before, but never hit upon a detail familiar enough to be positive (Marigold the mongoose was as close as I got). Fun and funny, must admit I did spend most of the book waiting for Rupert to reveal his brains. Other than a sweet brilliance for managing people, he's still in the intellectual closer, so to speak.

I LOVED this book. Not only was it hilarious at times, I thought his storytelling offered good life advice.

This book was really good. The main character in the book is Alex Cross. He is a detective/cop/therapist.At the beginning of the book, Alex's wife dies and throughout the book Alex is trying to find out who killed his wife. Alex at one point in the story leaves his job as a cop and becomes a therapist so he can be at home with his kids more since he's an only parent. Alex gets called back later in the story to take on this case of a man who is called The Butcher, and all the dectectives need Alex's skills to catch the murderer. The book follows Alex on his case of finding the Butcher and his goal in life of finding out who killed his wife. I recommend this book to anyone that loves a good mystery. It will keep you wanting more, and make you not want to set the book down.
