My neighbor went through training to become a foster parent for babies while moms try to get their act together. I met another foster mom like here when she was babysitting an 18 month old for her (they are only allowed to have babysitters who are also trained/registered with the state) and I decided it is impossibly hard to be either a foster kid or a foster parent. The kids go from home to home, but they don't have a HOME. I mean, I may have stayed somewhere else or gone to a summer camp growing up, but I had a HOME that I finally knew I'd end up back at. And these foster parents will raise a baby for a year as their own child, then suddenly have to turn it back over to the biological mom whose act is cleaned up enough to get her kid back, but who you know has lots of issues and it feels like you are giving YOUR baby to her to raise. Lots of foster parents are holding out hope that they'll be able to adopt the child, but know their relationship could end any day. So I imagine you try not to get too attached to the kid, but you're the kid's mom for that year, so how can you NOT get attached? Oi!
Gentle and poignant but thought provoking too.

Good for its intended purpose as a master's level text book. I'll keep it and refer to it as needed.

I have been waiting quite awhile for Hart's story and waited until I was on vacation to read this book uninterrupted. And I enjoyed it. But honestly, not as much as the ones preceding this one. I love the MacKenzies and I loved Eleanor. I loved that it was never really a question that Hart and Eleanor were in love. But I just wasn't as riveted this go round and right now I can't really put my finger on what was missing. I did enjoy seeing the other family members in the story and I really can't wait to read Daniel's story. I even enjoyed what was happening with Inspector Fellows - perhaps that can be a short novella?

Definitely for mature readers, but not in a gorey/sexual/bad language kind of way. This book talks about the reality of a Chinese farmer's life before China's Revolution. I loved the writing style. I highly recommend this book.

Cinder is stunningly beautiful! I loved the twist that Meyer created with the original story of Cinderella, yet these two stories are so different that they outweigh their comparisons. First of all, the futuristic world is unlike anything I've read in dystopian or sci-fi books, it's a world where technology is abundant, androids are eveyones' possession, and hovers are the fancy transportation. But with all the advancements that the world has created, there is one apparent flaw: a deadly plague that's rapidly killing innocent people. Due to past wars, the world has united yet divided into six 'goverments', but there is an outside planet, Luna, who's Queen wants to take over Earth's inhabitants and of course rule the world. I loved the characters in this story, they were all so well-developed and grew throughout the whole story. One of my favorites was Cinder and Peony. Cinder, the mechanical cyborg, is a strong and fearless character, I loved that she took risks and fought for what was right. Although as a cyborg and as an orphan she's despised by her stepmother, the book's entire focus did not dwell on that, in fact the focus was on the part that Cinder played in finding the cure for the plague and saving the world from evil Lunars. Peony, Cinder's stepsister and bestfriend, was an important character in the storyline. Although Peony was your typical teenager, I loved that she served as a strength for Cinder's problems. Overall, all the characters in this book are interestingly unique. Cinder is a page-turner, and it will keep you hanging on the edge of your seat until you finish the story. With it's fantasy elements, unique characters, and adventurous plotline, you will get drawn into Cinder's world.

A thoughtful and well-written account of a semester spent "abroad" in Jerry Falwell-Land! Very sensitive and balanced, and also very, very funny! An enjoyable read, and I recommend it highly.

I could not put this book down! One of the best I've read in a while. Great historical fiction!
This seems to be classified as a sci-fi/fantasy book, though it's really just a fiction book about scientists. It's about a woman who's trying to discover what starts fads, and a man studying chaos theory, and the bureaucratic absurdities of the corporation they work for. It's funny and light, but intelligent, and full of weird trivia about fads through the ages. The book culminates in an interesting & entertaining theory that uses chaos theory to explain fads. The book isn't anything amazing, but I enjoyed it.
