I loved this book. I enjoyed Shiver too, though I haven't gotten to its sequels because I thought the end was so perfect. But Shiver fits neatly in the paranormal romance niche, while The Scorpio Races is an entirely different breed of story. In fact, the whole time I was reading it, I was exclaiming over how unique it is, especially in the YA age group. It's about colorful, ferocious faery horses who live in the sea and roam one particular island when it storms. Then, they can be captured -- if you're willing to risk your life. Brave men ride the horses on the beach during the yearly Scorpio Races, at which people always die. It's the way of life on this moody, windswept island, home to a people who don't easily break from tradition, even tradition stained with centuries of blood. It's also about an island boy and an island girl, and how the races influence their past, present and future. I loved it. Loved how the island (location unspecified, I believe, though it seemed Irish or Scottish) is absolutely a character in its own right. Loved the beautiful, terrifying horses, whom even the bravest, most experienced riders can never quite trust. Loved Sean and Puck, and the achingly gradual way they open up to each other. I have no idea if this one's a stand-alone, but in this case, I hope so -- because the ending wrecked me in the best way.

I'm in love with Sophie Kinsella's writing style. It's just so magical and funny and clever. It was like Lara and Sadie were real! I loved this book, and i was so sad when it ended, but, unlike many other books out there, the end of this book was just right. Perfect.

Michener at his best. This novel recreates the history of South Africa and enables one to understand the mindsets of the original inhabitants, the first settlers, the military stationed there, and their descendants. Very interesting.

Published in 1995, this Pulitzer-winning novel makes me wish the story had been kept up to present day. The Grants travels and studies in the Galapagos are incitefully captured by the author, Jonathan Weiner, who brings a new light to evolution in real time for those both familiar or new to the theories presented here.

This is an account of Auschwitz. It's not too gory, but it has alot of detail that can be considered disturbing. The account of it is not heart felt, but rather cynical and nihilist. It's a good, easy read, only took me 2 hours. But it was a good two hours.

Like all Jane Green's books that I've read, it started out very promising - a great premise and good characters, but seemed to run off the rails at some point and ended with less panache than it started with. Not a waste of time though.

A quick read about an important subject. I felt it was written for a high school audience...but it did keep me entertained. I would recommend it for a mature junior high schooler or a high school girl. It would help to get the subject of date rape on the table.
