A great summertime read, although you'll probably be filled with something akin to envy or regret or maybe just mild remorse that you were never as cool as Deborah Copagen Kogen. The book lost me towards the end, sadly, but the beginning and middle were worth the effort it took to finish it.

This is probably the best book I've read in the past 10 years.

I think I appreciated this book a lot more than I otherwise would have because I read it in my English class and the teacher helped us discover all the nuances of langauge and inferences, etc. This is definitely a book on multiple levels, and amazingly well crafted, woven, etc.

This story had more twists and turns than I would have thought possible. You're introduced to Jacob Rappaport, a young man trapped by his circumstances, and finding that his decisions - his initial inability to say "no" - have shaped his life and made him into someone he barely knows. Initially, I wasn't fond of Jacob. I was put off by his ridiculous sense of pride and by his desire, above all else, to prove to his commanders that he's worthy of their trust, and deserving of a promotion. The turning point for me, though, was his entrance to the Levy house. I was completely taken by every one of the Levy girls, and found myself becoming more taken by Jacob as he was taken in by the girls. I grieved with Jacob during Yom Kippur, even as I was telling myself that it wasn't possible. I was frustrated with Jacob when he ventured in to Holly Springs and missed the obvious, and grew even more frustrated by the amount of time it took him to realize the obvious. At first I felt his life was too harsh, that there wasn't enough good left to make for a realistic ending, but I was wrong. Jacob's ending was better than I thought he'd receive, and I especially liked how Ms. Horn linked the fiction to the history, and tied the last scene in Richmond to Lincoln. I probably would have rated this book higher if it hadn't been for the repetitive sections that littered the book. It wasn't as bad as some novels I've read, but reading the same phrases, and being told the same information usually turns me away from a book, instead of drawing me in.

Twice I wanted to throw this book at the wall. Why did I keep reading then? Because I loved the witty writing style and felt closely drawn to the main character. Plus I had to see how it ended. I guess that makes it a good book...??

A really great read that takes a look at life in London during the years following World War II.
this author recommended for female character crime mystery. I won't be looking for other books by this author. Main character Stephanie Plum, bounty hunter, seemed absurd and contrived. Too many other good books out there to waste time on this.
a fast read make sure to read the book series in order

Wexler's "Living Large: From SUVs to Double Ds, Why Going Bigger Isn't Going Better" is a thoroughly engaging read that will entertain and educate you all at the same time. It will make you rethink your notions on the size of your car, house, church, debt, mall, garbage, engagement ring, and big box store. Wexler takes a hands on approach to research and test drives a Hummer, tours her friend's McMansion in the suburbs, attends a megachurch, spends 24 hours at the Mall of America, visits a landfill, and follows around a teen with cancer as he spends $3,000 at a big box store courtesy of the Make a Wish foundation. She's not just telling you facts and figures. She's exploring the issues for herself and giving you her reactions. If you have ever thought about America's obsession with big and looking for a great book to get you started on learning about this subject, this is the book for you.
