Great debut novel from Ian Esslemont. It takes place in the same world as the Malazan Books of the Fallen by Steven Erikson; the two authors co-created that world. If I could go back and change the order in which I read all the books by these two guys, I would read Night of Knives first, then the first six volumes of the Malazan Book of the Fallen, then Esslemont's second book, Return of the Crimson Guard.

I started this a while ago but gave up. Very dense and I did not find it accessible or enjoyable. I feel like it is a book I should read as I admire what the author is trying to do. Will try again one day

Just started this one and it is the scariest sociological report I have ever read. Future looks grim for women...
The author, Cary Holladay, tells a wonderful little story. By not making of it too much, she makes this period piece about a woman's infatuation for a stranger's child quite a lot.

Ultimately fell flat, and I thought the "choose your path" aspect was more annoying than fun. By the time I got to the last choice I really didn't care what she did, I just wanted to finish the story. It wasn't good enough that I'd go back and re-read to try different choices and paths.
I was a little disappointed in this sequel to Evernight. I didn't enjoy the turn of the plot (turning on her parents/joining the hunters) but I will read the third novel. I want to know wants happens to Bianca and Lucas.

I enjoy the early middle ages much more than the late middle ages. The sagas are gripping, but the romances, even the german ones, are a bit to floofy for my tastes. Lots of clothes and swooning and such.
I have read this book the most out of all in the series (7x). I loved this book to pieces. The story, the character arcs, the decisions made by certain characters and of course the big death. I love it all. I'd have to say for being the first story without Sirius I was completely surprised by how much I liked this book. I'll also state the reason why I've probably read it so much is because it took 2 years in between it and Deathly Hallows and I wanted to keep Half-Blood Prince fresh in my mind. This Book was book four out of seven for me.
