I read this as a sophomore in high school, and then again 15 years later. I must say that those 15 years made quite a difference. I really appreciate this novel a lot more now. I would venture to say that it is King's best writing. Not necessarily the best plot or characters, but the best prose. I was really interested in the use of foreshadowing throughout the book. I also found the occurrence of the wasps very interesting. Unlike Kubrick's film, the line of when Jack actually is taken over by the hotel is blurred. I kept thinking, this is it, but then he would waver again. I liked that complexity. I also liked that the novel makes a larger statement about alcoholism (or just addiction) and abuse and how it affects families, which is totally absent in the film. There were also some truly scary moments - several of them reoccurring ideas in King's work and some of them clearly influenced by Shirley Jackson's Haunting of Hill House, which he quotes at one point.

I keep swearing off the Stone Barrington book and then I read one that I like. Darn.

I read this book for my American Ethnic Literature class in college. I tried to start reading it over the summer to get a head since it so long, but that didn't really happen. I had a bit of a hard time starting the book because I didn't really understand where or who the narrator was. Once it got to telling the story though, I really liked the book. I think my professor really helped with that though. I remember him saying that the main character never learns his lesson though or the book would be wicked short. I actually think I never read the end! Oh my, hmmmm. Maybe I should do that. I also wrote a paper I was pretty proud of on this book. I remember my professor writing that the end seemed rushed and I thought, well, the end was rushed because I didn't read it!

Just finished it about 4 days. It was just what I needed gripping! But I was sad with what happened!
I read these when they first came out and really loved them back in the day. They were a little darker than some of Anthony's other stuff.

This was exactly what I needed right now. I love "The Fug Girls," so I knew I'd enjoy their first YA novel. Hoping there's a sequel in the works. Very funny read.
Nice hadith book with detailed commentary.

This is such a cool series by James Patterson. TickTock is the 4th of the Mike Bennett books (Step on a Crack; Run for Your Life; Worst Case). Mike a NYPD detective who deals with the terrorist when they appear and takes care of 10 children and has a semi-love life with the nanny, Mary Catherine. This book has a copycat killer on the loose and parts are sad and squeamy. Think you will enjoy. Quick read too.
