At times, the internal dialogue can be painful...but there are some interesting themes and concepts explored in these books. For a while, I was concerned this would be a retread of the first book, but there were enough shifts in the dynamics with how characters interacted with each other to keep things interesting.

There was nothing extraordinary about this book. It was a quick, light romance. I like picking up these Avalon Romance books because I know there won't be anything explicit in them. And since I'm a girl that loves a good easy love story, I snag them once in awhile in my library. There were some instances of light swearing for those of you interested in knowing that.

this wasn't an easy book to read. i was well over halfway through when it finally caught my interest, and it was a struggle the whole way. I finally got interested in the characters though, to be a little let down by the ending. It was almost like after all the effort to build up the story, she rushed it at the end. I wanted to know a little more. perhaps she plans a follow-up, but i don't think i'll be checking it out.

Quintana is my favorite of the Lumatere Chronicles. I remember complaining that the first book was not tragic enough for the circumstances, but I think the author was saving all of the heartache for this book. I got to know and love all of the characters throughout this series, and they experienced so much tragedy. I am happy with how the series ended, but it was a rough ride to get there.

I actually enjoyed this quite a bit, maybe more than Assassination Vacation, but then I'm fascinated by religious semantics. Like David Sedaris, Vowell is more entertaining to listen to than read, but I found some of the switching back and forth between Vowell's narration and the voice acting a little awkward, although it would have been worse I guess if she had just read the entire thing straight through.

This really felt like a filler book in the series. The series isn't that great to begin with, but it is a fun read. This book, however, was all about the 8-9 year journey to find, you guessed it, the ships of Earth. Though it was a fairly fast read, the book seemed kind of drawn out. It was mostly written to elaborate on the relatioships within the group chosen by the Oversoul, but to dedicate a whole book to doing so seems rather unnecessary in my opinion. Ontop of that, this book (along with the two previous others) brings up issues of religion and godliness as well as issues of sexism and marriage in a not so subtle fashion, which makes it almost distasteful. It's a bit of a pity that Card has some amazingly great works (namely, Ender's Game) and then we see this type of work from him. It's mediocre at best. Still, it doesn't make the book or series that much less enjoyable as a meaningless summer read.

So much better than that OTHER book about a teenage vampire and whatever. Not that I've read the other. It's just that this one has everything I love: Sweden, bullies, pedophiles, drunks, and huffers. It's idyllic is what it is. Oh wait, no. Still really well done though. A for effort, A+ for finished product.

Although I have read this book before, I am still fascinated by how well it was written. J.K. Rowling is a true genious!

Some books you read with your brain and some books you read with your ovaries - this one's the latter! It's hard to beat Nora Roberts for a light, undemanding, but satisfying read. She combines likeable characters, beautiful settings and trustworthy formulaic plots. She also likes to write trilogies which seems to be the exact number of light, frothy books you need to recharge your brain and move back onto heavier stuff . Born in Fire has a wonderful fiesty red-headed glass artist, an impossibly good looking rich art-loving businessman, a bitter mother, saintly sister and unanswered questions about the mother and deceased father's unhappy marriage. Conflict, lust, money, art and love all set in the beauty of Ireland. Perfect!
