This book is absolutly amazing, the first page is riveting and the characters are deliciously eccentric. Must be read with an open mind and a love for a good story. Makes many connections to Metamorphosis.

I love these Magic Tree House Research Guides! My seven-year-old son is reading them to me. These nonfiction books are a great introduction to history for elementary grade students. They are the perfect reading level for my son, and are really getting him interested in history. He even wants to go to a museum now, so that he can see some of the artifacts he's been reading about! Who would have thought it?

I really loved this memoir-- the author was funny, poignant and relevant to me-- and the different people and places described during her year of travel were so memorable. Some sections/phrases/sentences were written so beautifully that I reread them again and again.

Yes Mam...the finer things (sigh!). Joyce has once again given us another Cinderella story to remember. Violet was unlike any character I've ever read and her strength was of course storybook... Now Blake he's another matter. I would have told him to hit the road after the third time he apologized for his stupid self, but hey women these days are a different breed (or at least I am). In the end though Blake was SUCH a man, and Violet finally, finally got the ending she deserved. I would for sure recommend this to all my gals.

This series of Poirot stories is very well written, with intriguing plots and well developed characters. The fact that these stores are written from the perspective of Hastings creates some interesting narrative tension at times, as you start to engage with his frustrations or get annoyed at his apparent naivety. The entire approach of the Poirot character to detective work is rather different to that of other fictional crime fighters. As a fan of the Sherlock Holmes stories, I found it an odd change to get used to. It is what makes the character unique though. It was the first time I had read any of Agatha Christie's writing, and to be honest, I found her writing style quite difficult to get into sometimes -- I think this is because it is more rich and formal than I am used to. One criticism I would have is that the stories do seem to run on somewhat. There are periods of time when the plots seem to have little momentum, and it can be hard to keep going. Nonetheless, I am glad I read this book. Thoroughly enjoyed, and I hope to read more of Poirot's adventures in the future.

I never really pick up books before reading peoples'reviews of them and such, but with this particular series i took a chance based on the the front image and the jacket. the first 2 books, need and captivate, respectively are really good too, but this third one was great!!! there is something about this series that draws you in...it's almost addictive and i'm not sure why...but i don't care! and although i liked nick well enough, i have to say astley is amazing. despite zara being near obsessed with getting nick back from valhalla, putting all her family and friends in danger, and ignoring the heartfelt advances of astley, this book delivers. there is another book in the series to come out, not sure if it's the last but i think so. i really hope zara wakes up and recognizes that astley is the answer and that if she truly wants to keep people safe she will have to be with him for good. i think she might feel this way already but i'll have to wait for the next book. highly recommended series!!!
