This reads a bit like a thesis that was turned into a book. Still, it is a good read and very informative. It's definitely from a feminist perspective and presents the idea that women should really value ourselves. She presents an Orthodox Jewish perspective, which I don't always agree with, but I found it very eye-opening still to see some of the things that exist in our society and consider them in a different light. It's well written and definitely an interesting book.

I liked Lockhart's The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks so much I deliberately sought out this book and ended up reading it in one day. The story slightly parallels Kafka's Metamorphosis but where the latter is dark & disturbing, this one is lighter and has a charming love story, to boot. Reposted from the LDG

Much smaller than I had anticipated and photos are not as glossy-pretty as some books. (shiny things = neat!) There are a few pictures that stopped my heart, though. San Francisco, why do you have to be so beautiful? Oh, the wanton desire...

I mean, I don't even know how to review this book without saying the same things that a million other reviewers have already said. I don't read epic fantasy. It took me like three months to get through The Lord of the Rings. I've had this book for a while but hadn't picked it up because it was so lengthy. Lengthy, it was not. Maybe in word count, sure, but I zipped through this book. It hooked me from beginning to end so that I was frantically turning pages to find out what happened next. The action starts immediately - like BAM, here you are, here's these characters and they're doing something you have NO CLUE about. And from there, it's an epic adventure all the way til the end. (Heh. Epic. Pun.) I was absolutely in love with Tilda, who rather than being a hard-ass, is still often just a girl who isn't quite sure of everything. I love this rag-tag band of people that ends up getting dragged together, and the end was perfect. I can't wait to read the next!! Like everything Ed McNally writes, The Sable City was beautiful. This man has a grasp of words and putting them together into poetry and storytelling that most writers will never have. This book played out like a movie in my mind--the scenery descriptions stunning, the world SO REAL and so artfully crafted that it was easy to forget it didn't exist. This series has the potential to be as famous as LoTR or that George RR dude, but MUCH BETTER.

This is a personal memoir about growing up in an inter-racial Calvinist family in the mid-west. At times the story rips your heart out, but the author is always very level and never judgmental or blaming. She somehow was able to accept & survive what life handed her & her brothers. A great book that kept me glued to my chair..

A profound and beautiful novel--The Great Gatsby is perhaps one of the greatest novels ever written. It offers insight not only into an era that mirrors the period before the recession our nation now faces, but also insight into the very heart of humanity--the fundamental drive to reach for the stars, to believe in a better tomorrow even as the current flows against you. It is a powerful novel and a classic that everyone can benefit from.

Novel based on part on historical chronology. I know Kay Dupont - she does a one woman play as Mary Todd Lincoln. When Kay wrote this book, she asked me to edit it. I did that and corrected a lot of historical events that were out of order. This is a novel about Mary Todd and how she and Lincoln literally loved both mentally and physically. It was an effort to build up Mary Todd Lincoln and sell the theory that Mr. Lincoln was successful because of her. I did not buy the theory.
An entertaining book that has some funny language and rhymes.
