Very well written and loved the peek inside New York society during the late 1800s. So fascinating! The descriptions and detail were fabulous. I didn't give it 5 stars because I never felt connected with any of the main characters! I found something about each one of them annoying and I was frustrated with their choices. I would love to hear what someone else thought of the ending! I am still puzzling over that... I really, really liked this book and would recommend it.

I was surprised by how much continuous text in this book was lifted wholesale from other sources, particularly in the last two chapters. The amount of detail Capote managed to extract from his sources is pretty impressive, but it had the effect, in the latter half of the book, of tapering off the narrative into something more like a report or study.

I was really excited when I won this book, because I enjoy travelling and reading about travel, and I have traveled alone (something possessed me to up and move to Finland for 6 months when I was 21). However, as I read the book, I began to realize the book was more of the self-help genre than adventure/travel. This was a surprise considering the book is published by National Geographic. The first chapter is Baggage; this is not to be confused with Luggage. There were no tips on how to pack; instead, Ms. Booth shares her personal and emotional baggage, and boy does she have a wealth of that. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately), I could not relate to her sad life experiences. The next chapter was Courage, and here is what I was looking for...a story of adventure. Ms. Booth's telling of her rappel into the slot canyons of Utah was very compelling, yet still tinged with a bit of negativity (the poor woman is just a magnet for dislikable characters). The remaining chapters Solitude, Introspection and Commitment continued on with the theme of finding yourself and changing your life interspersed with a few travel adventures (dog sledding and trapeze school). There are even exercises at the end of each chapter to help you practice the concepts Ms. Booth has presented. I also learned some interesting facts about John Muir, Mother Teresa, Everett Ruess, and Terry Fox. I thoroughly enjoyed the travel writing, but the rest of the book was too self-centered and preachy for my liking.

Ok, we should define geek so that you'll know if you are one or not. My sister discovered she wasn't and so didn't like this. I did. Although I may not be a true geek, I know some and they've educated me so I thought this book was funny. So, geek=someone who knows Star Trek, Star Wars, Firefly, Battlestar also theater geek, science/quiz bowl geek, anime geek, if you've ever run around with a sword, this is also you. Others, well, you probably shouldn't bother. So, if you are one of those or know and love one of those, give it a shot. After all, they're short stories. Oh, this may take it down a star for you... it's mostly about the triumph of geekdom, often in love, so it's kinda corny/cheesy. Like I said though, they're short stories.

I was sad that this was it. I loved the Twilight collection and was sad when I found myself reading the last book. This one was the weakest (in my opinion), but i still enjoyed it!

Clear, easy to follow, good illustrations and engaging. The ending is a little fast but there's an explanation at the end about Aesop's fable which was a good addition.

Would have given it more stars but the necessity journalists feel nowadays to insert themselves into their stories drives me crazy.

Unfortunately, this is not the sweeping novel of the Afghan experience that we've been waiting for. Hosseini spins a relatively good yarn, but for speaking for a region that so desperately needs a voice that Westerners can relate to he falls tragically short. Ultimately it's the bathos and the contrivances that drag it down.
Loved this book. Couldn't put it down
"Slogged" es la única forma de describir cómo superar la primera parte, pero una vez que mi voz interior se sintonizó con la forma medieval tardía de poner las cosas, me enganché. 3/4 del camino, quedando despierto demasiado tarde para obtener mi dosis diaria, la mitad de la diversión es buscar en Google los senderos históricos de conejos que aparecen. Muy recomendable hasta ahora para cualquiera con una inclinación anglófila o medieval. Terminado. Bueno
