I loved the perspective this book was written by. The cover and title suggest it will be written from the point of view of the girl but it's really from the boy's point of view. I was so hooked that I read 3/4 of the book in one day and the last little bit the next day. Some things weren't totally explained and I wanted to know more of the aftermath of the story but overall it was interesting.

I have read this book over and over and over - and LOVE it. Thomas is a wonderful character who I absolutely fall in love with (it's ok - he's 11). The twists and turns of the plot are wonderfully written.

A biography of cancer does not sound like it would make an appealing book, but this was fascinating. Mukherjee provides clear explanations of complex science that are easily understood by the lay person and documents the evolution of cancer treatment and biology well. I was less interested in the ancient history then what happened in the 20th century, but luckily that stuff was relatively short. Periodically, Mukherjee would talk about his own patients and I wish there had been more of that. I also wish there had been more of discussion of Gleevec, the miracle drug my brother was on. All in all, worth a read.

Really fascinating how - as is typical of Philip K. Dick's writing - the stories are so relevant in today and tomorrow's context, even though written over five decades ago. Brilliant stuff.
