This is not a light read! The level of detail in the book is surprising, and if you are not already familiar with architectural terminology and designs, be prepared to learn many new concepts and terms! The effort is well worth it. You will gain a much deeper understanding and appreciation of these extraordinary buildings. And if you have the good fortune of visiting one, your astonishment and enjoyment will be elevated to a whole new level.

What I like about this book--it has excerpts from women, so it tries to capture a variety of psychological worlds. Also, it has questions at the end of each chapter to help you meditate further on the different topics, and the bibliography at the back looks helpful. What I didn't like about this book--it's super New Agey, and I felt like there was not enough variety in the women interviewed to get a clear view of women's psychology.

After getting used to the language style I found myself truly enjoying this book. It's a good look into the lives of pioneering Floridian families. Having lived in Florida myself, it's amazing to me how they did all they did in that oppressive heat! Birdie is a cute little character, and I enjoyed seeing life through her eyes.
