I definitely liked this book. I felt that it is a good example of what a dystopian novel should be: it was outlandish, but still grounded in current reality. Nina is a strong character that takes too much upon herself. She feels that she is personally responsible for the wellbeing of all of those around her. I felt that she was a great character but she needed a little more youth mixed in with her adult attitude. The story was very well written. I did not feel like there was a lag or that it was too fast. My only concern for this series is that Karr has yet to publish the third novel, and according to Goodreads it looks like it might not be published. Unfortunately, this makes me not want to read the next edition to the series. I don’t want to become more invested in the characters and story to only be left in the dust by the lack of published materials.

A good Roky Erickson song and a smart title for a book about an indie rock band. Unfortunately novels about indie rock bands are inherently somewhat embarrassing.
Probably a book most people had to read in high school or college. I read it for the first time and really enjoyed it! A close encounter with growing up in NYC under the crushing heel of poverty, a look at the meaning of pride, the lengths that people will go to in order to survive, and growing up.

I remember I read this for school and really liked it. I think I need to reread it now though as I don't really remember the plot.
The Thursday Next series is a must-read for anyone who loves literature. The novels are full of references and parodies, most of which are at the very core of the novels' humor. Absolutely excellent and Fforde is an intelligent, hilarious genius.

A good book to show children how families may different from one another. How one child might stay with only dad, or mom, or grandparents. This one in particular only highlights fathers but represents how the child is just as loved and happy as any other family.
An absolutely fantastic book, which made me cry over a hundred times. This book really gave me a different perspective on life. Never take your life for granted!!!

I love this book that is definately appropriate for 5 graders and up. Younger student will enjoy this story as well though there is some mention of kissing. Nothing too graphic. Lynn loves fashion and she has always dressed to reflect who she is on the inside. A pink tutu with knit leggings and a hello kitty necklace constructed from old figurines? Shoes made from little pictures of her friends glued all over the place? Lynn does it all. When a new online magazine comes to town in search of girls to write for the blog Lynn goes to try out. She misses her opportunity because of a fashion emergency (aka the bathroom)and is really upset. She ends up going out to eat with her friend where she runs into the famous Valentyna and trying to look cool she walks past her strutting in her new shoes-slips- and has one of her shoes fly off and into Valentyna's salad. Embarassed she runs out. Then she finds out that there is a hunt to find the creator of the shoe. Similar to Cinderella! Great example of friendship, popularity, how to treat people and following your dreams.
