I know this is a classic, an absolute Mount Everest in American Literature, the best of the best...But I don't like it! That's why I've given it a 4 star when it probably is rated (deserves?) a full five stars! It's just too long, too macho, too muscular, too big and to boring...Sorry about that!

Book 1 of the Series of Unfortunate Events is a fun read, both cleverly written and depressing at the same time. It's interesting to see what's going to happen next to the three precocious Baudelaire orphans, in a book where you know it's only going to get worse, but they are somehow going to overcome. This was a fun book to read with my daughter Alexa.

This book was mostly non-stop for me. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The plots continued to move along, some resolving and changing, others just reaching their peak. I like that they're not all going up and down at the same time. There were some great resolutions in this book. Particularly with Rand's character. These I really enjoyed. I'm super excited for the next book. There's still some major elements that are smack in the middle of their development. For Perrin and Mat at least. And there's no telling what's in store for Rand next. Thoroughly enjoyable!
