Sorry Mrs. Stucken. I hated this in high school. I re-read it a couple years ago, and loved the hell out of it. It's nice when that happens.

I read this book to my 8th grade English class and they loved it. There are 7 books in the series and I've read them all!

Didn't care for this book. It was a series of short paragraphs of memories, often disjointed and often repeated. It could have used some additional editing. High expectations that fell very short.

For a Potter fan like me, The Magicians is a bit cure. It is an adult fantasy book that can make you laugh, make you cry, make you feel the fear and mystery. Lev Grossman gives us a little bit of Hogwarts in Brakebills and a little bit of Narnia in Fillory, but in a high-intense version. It's one hell of a fantasy book you fantasy-book fans must read.

Loved all the history of Oak Ridge, The Atomic City. The story was good, but the ending feels rushed and tacked on.

Do you love white picket fences? Do you love tract housing? Do you love the history of commuting? Then this book is for you. This book is really for anyone who has ever lived in suburbia, scorned suburbia, or wants to live in suburbia. It really is the most complete historical account of American suburbs. It's tremendously lively; there is plenty of sex and rock n'roll in Jackson's narrative. Learn about walking cities, the Great Depression, and ornamental lawns! (It's really more interesting than I'm making it sound). Just the fact that Jackson can connect these subjects makes it a book worth reading: horsecars, Frederick Law Olmsted, country clubs, cable cars, drive-in food, shopping malls, the Model T, front porches, air conditioning, and video games. He predicts that surburbanization will slow as gentrification of cities increases. However, what this could mean is no cheap housing for anybody, I suspect. A very worthwhile read.

I was waiting for the main character to be eaten by the damn cat.

As an aspiring writer, and someone who went through a rather unexpected and completely unpleasant "quarter-life crisis," I loved a lot of the stories in this collection. It was my bedtim book, and I think my boyfriend got tired of my surreptitious giggles and my attempts to make him listen to me read passages to him. I often worry that my life has been too bourgeois, boring, and happy to be interesting, but these stories show that you can make art and humor out of the small and large things that are happening all the time.
