Fun, easy read. Actually a book for teenagers, but unlike some teenage books it doesn't treat the reader like a love-sick idiot. And I liked the ending pretty well, it resisted the urge to wrap things up with happy little rainbows and dancing puppy dogs.

This is an excellent choice for kids (and adults) who don't like nonfiction. Pick it up and you won't stop laughing. Full review on my blog http://librariansbookreviews.blogspot...

While I enjoyed it up until the end (pure dessert, mystery, who-dun-it story), I was left a little miffed at the simple, not-at-all very clever ending. Just didn't pay off per the lead-up. So 3 stars for the fact that I enjoyed most of it.

4th QUARTER Siti Hajar Mohd. Khairi The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins 374 pages Scholastic. $17.99 isbn13: 9780439023481 (Ages 12 & up) It was against all odds. Her name was only placed once! Katniss stared in horror as her twelve year old sister would be welcomes into the games. She had her name in there more than she can count and yet her dear sister has been called. The Hunger Games was a way to tell all twelve districts who's boss. The Capitol made it this way for one reason and one reason only: POWER. Unable to face the facts, Katniss volunteers. She knew she had slim chance of actually winning. District 12 has not had a winner in a long time. Once the boy's name was called, a guy named Peeta, she was whisked away toward the Capitol. The games had begin. Katniss and Peeta had declared their love for each other to have the audience's attention and favor. Her stylists had dressed her up and made her noticeable. Now its a death match. All 24 tributes (two from each District) is set against each other. Katniss had fair experience in the wild but could she face the other Districts who had trained all their lives for this oppurtunity? Would she have an ally? Could she send a message to the Capitol that they are NOT the boss? As she spends her few weeks in the wild she uncovers the truth about love, risks, strategies and a second chance at life... I highly recommend this book if you're kind of tired of chick lit. There is still hints of love and attraction but there's also action and lots of combat. This is like Harry Potter as he entered the World Cup. It is nothing alike however. There are so many shocking outcomes it keeps you glued. There is always something or a problem had surfaces as the book goes along. Trust, you'll be HUNGRY for more =)

I was bored by this book and found myself skipping through pages. I love vampire books and movies, this lacked the action I was looking for. But if you're reading the Twilight saga, don't skip this book because you'll miss some important stuff.

I "ate" this book up. It was amazing to read the memoir of such a famous celebrity chef/cook. The writing was relaxed and flowed as if Julia herself was just making converstation. Her husband Paul Child was a photographer and various photos are included in the book. I thought the photos were of interesting subjects and professionally done (he sold photos to MoMA). While there are no recipes in this book at all, to read who the Childs interacted with during her life-time: Crurnonsky (food critic), James Beard, etc. during the Cold War and McCarthyism. The explaination of how she became a cookbook author and later a TV cook was entertaining and interesting to hear about being at the right place at the right time and knowing the right people to network. I trully enjoyed this historical memoir on a cooking guru.

Putting the father back in the mix entailed his great sorrow for the loss of his wife after she gave birth to Cendrillon. The depression was so great that he refused to love Cendrillon and abandoned her at the estate with his servants while he returned to court and stayed there. Hence, Cendrillon grew up with the understanding that her father blames her for her mother's death. When the stepmother and stepsisters arrived, it seemed that they too might also be villains. However, they had been forced into a marriage for political reasons and then shipped to their new home - far away from court. In time, Cendrillon and her new family learn to love one another. I really enjoyed this book, and I would probably recommend it to be one of the first ones to read in this series. Complete review on my blog

Admittedly, I consider myself a Cormac McCarthy fan. In my book, the man can basically do no wrong. The Road is a powerful story of a father and son journeying in post-apocalyptic times, struggling to survive and searching for what's left of humanity as depravity runs rampant. It was a finalist for the NBCC Award and won the Pulitzer for fiction.

** spoiler alert ** This book was not impressive. Based on other reviews, I thought it would be a really progressive novel about a transgendered teen, but instead all I got was a pretty generic YA novel that didn't go deep enough into the topic at hand and used annoying acronyms like "TGirl" and "GG", which I have never heard someone say in my life. Also, all that special technology (creaking stairs, flickering lights, car keypad lock) seemed really unrealistic for a 17-year-old. And for someone who was supposed to be a female trapped in a male body, Luna still seemed to have stereotypical masculine qualities, such as the uber-techie thing and the Spyder car. Also, crossdressing does not equal transgendered. I didn't like that the book was from the perspective of the sister instead of Luna herself, and I thought the ending was completely the opposite of what it should have been. To just get on a plane and leave?? The author had the chance to represent this character as a new type of heroine who overcame the small minded people surrounding her, and instead represents her complete avoidance.
different perspective, since it has been about three years since i read it last. Pretty good.
