Great Book! This book reminded me why Romance was my first love in reading. A little mystery, a little intrigue, and a hot page turner!

Amazing story... Beautifully written and dramatic. I love how Adams weaves in lapine folklore with the story. Don't worry about the sequel though, it's disappointing. The movie is worth checking out. I read it in 1996 and again in 2002.

I enjoy things written in "vignettes." As a person who fancies herself a story maker-upper, I have a good deal of respect for the structure of Connell's Bridge novels. On one hand, it's easier to partition events into these scenes, but to weave it together -- that's some good making-upping.
I enjoyed this first book in a new series by Brandon Mull. For the first few chapters I wasn't sure I was going to be able to get into the story much, and I'm still not sure that I will like this series as much as I liked his Fablehaven series. But by midway through the book, I was hooked and couldn't put it down! I really like the choices the youth in this book have to make...to fight against evil against seemingly insurmountable odds, or to do the easy thing and join with, or at least stop fighting against, the evil emperor. Their choices are hard, and giving up is made to seem very attractive. Doing the right thing is difficult, painful, and doesn't seem to bring any reward. Yet, they continue to do the right thing simply because it IS the right thing, and because they know who they want to be. Excellent moral lessons here. Also, I think this book has my most favorite cliff-hanger ending ever! I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.

I STARTED READY THIS SERIES WHEN I WAS ONLY 8 OR 9 YEARS OLD. THE FIRST BOOK WAS LITTLE HOUSE IN THE BIG WOODS. I BECAME SO INVOLVED IN THESE STORIES THAT I USED TO DREAM OF BEING A PIONEER GIRL. I WOULD STAY UP ALL NIGHT READING AND WOULD WALK TO THE LIBRARY TO CHECK OUT THE NEXT BOOK IN THE SERIES. I BECAME AN ADVID READER AFTER THIS EXPERIENCE.

I realized something about myself while reading this book. When I read a book I become really involved in it, especially the main character. In this book the main character is a loser. He owns a failing record shop, he just broke up with his girlfriend, he has done nothing good in his life and he is in is 30's. While reading this book I became lethargic, grumpy, and just felt like life was crappy. Why? Because I felt the main character SO MUCH that it was spilling into my real life. In the end when he starts realizing his life is crappy he has a realization and shapes up a little. I liked the ending and found the book humorous. Even though the book affected me a lot I still liked it. Probably 3 1/2 stars. Very crass. LOTS of swearing and sexual references/scenes.
I liked it a lot better than I did last time around. I figured out the main 'flaw' in these books that is the reason I don't like them as much as lots of other books. Harry is not likable. This hit me about halfway through, when for the hundredth time he was yelling at someone who didn't deserve it, losing his temper, or placing his own desires above logic. He isn't likable! it seems like he feels umistakable rage or unwordable fury more often than any emotion. He loves one person, & trusts very few others. He thinks he knows best about everything. He's very stubborn. He would do anything for soemthing, then as soon as he gets it, he doesn't care anymore. He bothers me. Plus he kind of overreacts. The only characters in these books I thoroughly like are McGonagal, the twins, Ginny, Mr & Mrs Weasley, Lupin, Tonks, I really like Moody, and Luna is great. Neville is great too. Ron is always blaming Snape, which drives me absolutley out of my head. Or he is bickering with Hermione or feeling sorry for himself.
