I believe the book is below average. The author was trying to imitate similar dystopian novels from other westerns writers but it ended up with an exaggerated and far from realistic account on events that could happen based on the current circumstances that made him write the book.

my dad thought I should read this book, so I did. Its an interesting collection of little success stories where managers held to their religious convictions instead of folding under business pressures.

This book was recommended to me by my best girl Abby and several other people since then. I can't wait to read! I have just finished this book. It was great! I am a volunteer with a hospice organization and it kind of made me re-evaluate some of my relationships with my patients. It was very touching and acutally a lot of useful information to dive into the mind of a 90-something year old man. I can see how it can be frustrating, everyone trying to placate you, and waking up every day not knowing if you are remembering the past or living in it! Good insight. Also, interesting stories (hopefully well researched) about living/working with the circus in the 1930s.

Niquole Wright has it made and is living the lavish life with expensive clothes and cars, two children, celebrity status among her peers, and a thriving record label. All seems perfect in her world except for her husband “situation”. Obviously no longer in love with her husband, Niquole engulfs herself in an extramarital affair with Kingston. Losing sight of everything of importance around her, each day brings increase to her new obsession. Niquole no longer respects her husband, neglects their children, and mistreats her family and friends. Everyone around her isn’t ignorant to what’s going on in her personal life, however; especially the anonymous person that threatens to expose her secrets to Germaine. Niquole takes a nonchalant approach to their threats since all she seems to care about is spending the rest of her life with Kingston anyway. Make no mistake; her money is just as important. Her money being the reason she hasn’t left her husband already. While Niquole is busy planning her escape with Kingston, Germaine is desperately trying to hold their family together. Little do either of them know, Kingston seems to have a plan all his own. Karma is the bitch that needs to give Niquole Wright a good beat down! Her character, or lack thereof, is developed so well that my blood boiled the entire read. Racy, erotic, and suspenseful, The Available Wife was a hard book to put down and walk away from. The plot is strong and the twists are very compelling. Despite the slight editing issues, the story is very much enjoyable and well written. The drama starts on page one and doesn’t stop until the last page where Pennington made sure to leave readers anticipating more. What I like most about this book is the lesson behind the fiction. The characters bring awareness to the issue of codependency in some who put addiction ahead of everything else in their life. This story shows what it looks like from the outside looking in when people don’t value their blessings. Good fiction story telling and life lessons make for a fantastic book! 5 Stars Written By: Kenya Mack

I found this book after an article in the Nashville Scene and am glad I bought it. I may choose it as a book club book, as long as no one will be offended.... UPDATE: I probably will not choose this is a book club book because I am certain that someone will be offended. However, I HIGHLY recommend this book and think every American should read it. Even though it's only one man's account and should be "taken with a grain of salt" I think there are truths in the book that bring up concepts most American's never think of... such as the idea that maybe we're not always the hero, but that we too could be seen as terrorists...

I'm not a Christian, but Book of John makes the story of Jesus compelling. It's one of the more beautifully written parts of the Bible I have read, along with the Song of Songs. It's lyrical while also telling a story. Here are some of my favorite lines, and my responses: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." (John 1:1) "The Word" means the Old Testament, but taken generally this is a powerful statement about stories and the written word, why we remember stories and sanctify them, and why we continue to search for eternal truth in stories. "'..."Where I am going you cannot come." A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.' " (John 13:33-35) It's not hard to see why I like this line... it's just warm and fuzzy. The context of this new, final commandment makes it even more poignant: Jesus knows he's going to die, and he's saying his last words to his disciples. He is saying that to love one another is the best way to honor him and commemorate his life on earth. "When a woman is in labor, she has pain, because her hour has come. But when her child is born, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy of having brought a human being into the world." (John 16:21)

I love autobiographies. This is the real grit and dirt of his life. He writes like he talks, and tells all kinds of great stories, whether you like jazz or not. Where else could you read about the details of shooting heroin with Ella Fitzgerald? Who knew?

Story of a middle aged woman artist and her growing up in Canada. Painstakingly accurate description of the cruelty of children towards each other and the unbridgeable gap between the adult and child world. Also a poignant recognition of how people can change in middle age from our childhood perceptions of them.

I love reading the McKettricks books. As I read each book I had to go out and find the next book in the series. For me these books are a must have in my book collection.
