I loved this book. It had a very interesting ending and most of it was capitivating.

I love Andrea Barrett's treatment of scientists in the nineteenth century, and this book features a scientific expedition to the Arctic in that time. As usual, she perfectly captures the awkwardness of the scientists, especially their difficulties in dealing with the laborers supporting the expedition. I gave it only four stars because it's clear that she's used to writing short fiction, and things start to fall apart near the end. Still, it's a wonderful book for a cold winter evening and some scotch.

This book was written by a fellow alum of William Smith College. Beyond that, I found it unremarkable.

These books are total brain candy but they take place in Trenton. There is even a Stephanie Plum day celebrated each June. Make fun of me if you will but Janet Evanovich makes for some great non-thinking trashy beach reading.

Any fan of James Leo Herlihy's novels, Warhol, or any memoirs depicting the struggle and glory of finding your voice will love this book. Smith and Mapplethorpe's relationship goes above and beyond any sense of the word "relationship." Theirs is a friendship that thrives on each others influences and accomplishments. Patti memoir sheds a lot of light on her creative process as well and glimpses of those around her.

Impenatrable. It took me a month to finish and I only did that by skipping to the end. Might have been cool 30 years ago - but felt like the writing's of someone who took too many philosophy classes.
Why Is My Dog Doing That? by Gwen Bailey provides simple, realistic explanations for dog behaviors that annoy humans. Bailey includes pictures to demonstrate the behaviors. She also explains the dog’s motivation but don’t expect to find solutions to complex behavioral problems. She gives some simple redirection tools and ideas that provide a starting point when dealing with dog’s behavior. Bailey’s easy to read style of writing makes this a good starting point for understanding dog behavior and perhaps could serve as a quick reminder reference when a dog owner is in a rush.

I enjoyed a lot of the little stories that are in this book, especially the scars to stars story.
