While I respect the man and his message, his stream-of-consciousness, first person writing style wore thin.

It has the Right Stuff. A wonderfully absorbing account of the first hot shot jet pilots and the heroism and tomfoolery that surrounded the first astronaut missions.

Reading Mali's stuff doesn't compare to hearing him recite it. With a penchant for rhythm and acting, he's one of those people that comes across as condescending and patronizing and most importantly... right on the money. He's got the swagger that comes from fighting the good fight. Kind of like the Half Nelson of the poetry world.
Different reality for a child of this world and being ignored ,sounds like what most people do to their children and don't realize it ...just a thought

i just made everyone at my office look at this book. the story is that the author was cleaning out a closet and found a bunch of weight watcher recipe cards from the 70's...all of which were more than a little ridiculous. The author makes incredibly witty quips; this would be perfect for a coffee table book!

Good basic insight into start up of charter schools in the inner city and the pitfalls. Provides a boost for teachers who do not feel they are appreciated. Some good insights into viable programs to create stronger prep programs to develop inner city teaching professionals. Uplifting, quick read.

Contains one of the best jokes I know. To paraphrase: Two worn-out dogs with mangy coats run into a third dog on the streets of Moscow. This third dog has a gorgeous, shiny coat, and appears well-fed. The two dogs walk up to the third and ask, "How the hell did you get so much food? We're starving out here!" The third dog goes, "Well, there's this doctor Pavlov who runs this psychology institute. I walk in and he puts me in a warm room and rings a bell. All I have to do then is drool a little, and these well-trained doctors bring me a meal!" Other than that it's pretty boring.

Well, I loved this book, probably more of a 4.5. And yes, I am a dog lover. But the author did a fabulous job of imagining what goes on in a dog's mind. The story is narrated by Enzo, the dog who is owned by Denny, and loved by Denny, who is a part-time racing car driver, very skilled at racing in the rain. I care nothing for car racing, but somehow it all helped the story flow along with it's ups and downs.
