Note: I'm not going to rate the book as a whole until such time as I've read the whole thing. Ratings for individual stories are provided in the text of the review. "City of Demons" by Richelle Mead Georgina Kincaid #2.5 - ★★★★ An interesting story that reveals more of Georgina's personality and further highlights how different she is from most other demons and immortals on Team Evil. Her sense of justice is highlighted, as is her desire for the truth, even when knowing the truth will likely serve little purpose. We also get to learn more about Seth's character, and how he's feeling about their relationship. Two separate plots are interwoven here, with the narrative switching back and forth nearly seamlessly. Georgina finds herself in an impossible position a few different times on a few different fronts, but just when you're sure she's just going to have to suck it up and deal with some setbacks, a last minute twist salvages a lot of the mess she's been in. This was a relatively quick read, and I'd certainly recommend it to anyone following the series, especially reading it in order, as it's worthwhile for the character insights alone.

Four stars instead of five because of so many feminist viewpoints and commentary. Give it up already, women are equal to men! Sheesh. Other than that, my first impression was negative because of a slow start. Six months later I picked it back up and loved it. First have is a chronological progression starting with the Whetherills and on through the present. I learned about the Crow Canyon Archaeological Center and plan to visit it this weekend! Does not paint as coherent and lucid a picture as House of Rain did, even though that book was just one non-archaeologist's theory. It needs a few maps just to show the boundaries of areas spoken of: Great Sage Plain, Delores Valley, etc. Lots of rivers and geographical features spoken of that get confusing after a while.

A lot of people, especially women really like this book, so I reccomend it to people pretty often. Truth b told, though, i HATED the main character. Generally, I like characters with problems, but I cannot stand a character that pities thmselves as much as she did. It is pretty cool that Lamb can write so well as a woman, but this woman was miserable and kept making her life worse because she felt so badly for herself. Absolutely some of the thigns that happened to her were horrible, but many could have been prevented if she wasn't so selfish. Still, more people I've talked to love this book than feel how I do about it, so I guess don't knock it out bcause of m.

This is one of the most singularly lovely stories every written. The original french is almost incomparable to the english version, and I thoroughly reccomend either having it read aloud to you in french or reading it aloud to yourself.

I thought --after reading a review of this book--I would love this book. The setting is Paris. The topic is interesting --the looting of art by the Nazi during WW2 and the story seemed compelling --a son's struggle to recover the priceless paintings that belonged to his father. The writing is good --beautiful at times but the characters failed to engage me. Well researched but a disappointing book. I debated as to whether it deserved two or three stars.
