I read this book for my book club. I remember nothing about the book or any discussion we may have had aboutit.

The world building was nice. I don't mind BDSM or power play but sometime I had the feeling they went out of the way to just add toys to the scenes.

Certainly better than the movie. I like how it was really just a series of short stories all laced together with a common cast. Each section had its own message, and it read like a series of philosophical lectures (which I happen to enjoy).

I can't think of a novel that I have abandoned with a worse impression of the author. Cannetti was reportedly a royal prick, a backstabbing, misogynistic troll, and nothing in the first pages this book does anything to dispel any of it. Maybe I'll get around to it, but I doubt it - it's too unpleasant.

Ohhhh, I WANTED this book to be as good as The Knife of Never Letting Go. It's a bit shaky at the start, though, and takes most of the book to get going at a steady pace. The main character is a bit of a jerk, and when he sees the light, you root for him because he has potential. Some of the bad guys are a little too bad, and I wanted to get to know the main character's brother a little better, but this is a solid take on fear and loathing - what makes it and how it can be extinguished- all wrapped up in a neat little quest package.

Just a tad obsessive, but loved the walking parts....

Not only do I like this better than my last book selection, but I like it better than the 1st book in the series. Cassandra Clare has a way of teaching morals without comming across as preachy. It makes you realize how easy it is to make bad decisions in your life at the same time as you are enjoying a kick demon butt kind of story. Loved it!!!! I don't know if I can wait for book 3 to come out in paperback or if I will have to borrow my friends so I can read it sooner.
An good medieval mystery featuring, Adelia, the (unheard of at the time) female doctor.
What better way to pontificate on both poverty at the global level and the individual level than travel the world talking to poor people and asking them why they are poor? Vollmann indeed does exactly that. Poor People is an easily readable book. For those of you seeking anecdotes from poor people, this book is for you.
