i enjoyed this for every reason but the love story. austen was a lot smarter than people give her credit for...too bad people only see the mushy stuff and not her brilliant commentaries on class struggle.

Didn't turn out as good as it seemed in the beginning. Want to give it 2 and a half stars.

A clearly written and hugely inspiring book. It delves into the history and theory of political economy in the 20th century, and proposes a new economic theory for the future, complete with suggests of how to achieve it. This book could rank among the most important and influential books I've ever read.

The (original) Canadian title of this book is "The Rebel Sell" - the latest Canadian edition includes the authors' comments about the various international titles (chosen by publishers), among other things. Very interesting and challenging reading for lefties (like me) steeped in Adbusters, etc. Unfortunately, it's riddled with distractingly flippant passages that undermine the authors' arguments which actually, i think, merit serious consideration in many cases. Their feminist and anti-colonial critiques (such as they are) sadly, are cursory and weak. In short: a fascinating, infuriating, dissapointing, and brilliant book about why we have such a hard time making the world a better place.

Here is an overlooked gem of a play, which won Glaspell the Pulitzer for drama in 1930. In fact, Glaspell was the first woman to win a Pulitzer. A family gathers to spend the last night in the home once belonging to Aunt Agatha, and Aunt Alison, who became a famous poet after her death. The Alison character is a sort of surrogate for Emily Dickinson. The family wrestles over each member's memory of Alison and her legacy of manuscripts bound in paper and thread. In a moving conclusion, long-buried secrets come to light. Glaspell's gift is dialogue and pace, and they are beautifully displayed here. How sad that this playwright is forgotten these days!

Another good book similar to "The tipping Point". Again, eye-opening on how people tend to think.
