Not a bad read. I like the character Raylene because she is unique among Vampire protagonists in that she is neurotic, paranoid, and a little insecure. It made for a nice change. I do have to admit that I loathe first-person narratives. This book did nothing to disabuse me of that preference. It is a good tale and I might consider reading a second volume but I doubt I'll do it right away. I'd recommend this as some of the better "urban fantasy" but certainly not the best.

Possibly one of the most comprehensive and smoothly-written books about the events and politics surrounding the freedom of India from British rule in the 1940s. The book reads almost like a novel, cutting back between different political figures such as Gandhi, Nehru and Jinnah. I enjoyed it because it gave me facts and stories I never knew about India, but did not like the pro-British, almost anti-native bend of the story.

Better, in my opinion, than Twilight, and has the same easy, readable style. Still largely about describing characters and relationships. The plot seems largely geared toward setting up the activities in the next two books (which I have not read as of this writing). Worthy of a look for those interested in stories with supernatural or fantastical elements in them.

Having known very little about Roald Dahl other than reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, etc., this book came as a bit of a blow. Wow, that man was something else. I knew he'd written short stories that were much more macabre and bizarre but I didn't think I'd read any of them (then I found out that he and Ian Fleming brainstormed the story where the woman kills her husband with a leg of mutton then serves it to the detectives investigating the case). I learned a lot from this book. I certainly learned about the British undercover operations during WWII, in Washington and abroad, and that was all very interesting. It did a lot to shape the course of the war, and especially America's involvement in it. But what I really learned the most about was the giant network of boozing, wife-swapping good old boys (and girls) running Washington at the time. Wow. Just, wow. I probably know more about that than I needed to know. Still, I guess it's better to have a realistic portrait of these people and what they accomplished and how they managed it. I did like Jennet Conant's writing style and might consider picking up her newest book about Julia Child's wartime spy activities, even though I did get a little bogged down in the middle of this one.

A deep dark story, mysteries events on every page, great graphics, this book lived up to it's hype. Many unanswered questions after reading this with hints of more to come.

This short book offers a rather comprehensive overview of the vast subject of Indian village folk theater. Mathur manages to give readers an understanding of the history and development of folk theater within the complexities of Indian society, exploring the differences between north and south, urban and rural, Hindu and Muslim and the inclusion of women in performance forms that have been exclusively male for many centuries. All this, without even delving into politics...

Pretty much everything that I said for Stars Collide, the first in the Backstage Pass Series is still true in considering Hello Hollywood our new second in the series. My journey with books by Janice Thompson started in Contemporary Romantic Comedy, went to Historical Romance and even dipped into Young Adult Fiction. When I found myself with another opportunity to jump into a new Contemporary Romantic Comedy series I knew that I would be with pure delight during this read and I was not mistaken. This new series “Backstage Pass” is an opening into a wonderful new world we had a taste of in the last Weddings by Bella book and in one of Janice’s historicals Love Me Tender. Now we are full fledged into the Hollywood world and it is a thrill. The characters come off the page as real life persons that have it all with mystery and romance and best of all a Christian faith in a difficult environment. Although I was not expecting a character shift like many other series that I read, since Weddings by Bella was all from Bella, this was great and entertaining from beginning to end. Anyone can pick up a book from Janice Hanna Thompson and expect a light-hearted romantic thrill with laughs here and there. I highly recommend them all! *Thanks to Revell Books for providing a copy for review.* Originally posted: http://creativemadnessmama.com/blog/2...
