Okay I read this entire book. No for real I read the introduction and the afterword about how to find prime numbers under 100. * Here's the thing this book does not make math easy. I mean multiplying is complicated enough without jumbling up a zillion monsters. I think the book is interesting in a graphic design kind of way for adults. But giving this book to a child... that would just be mean. *I thought if I read the introduction the book wouldn't be confusing anymore, not that children read introductions

A great source for people looking for mushrooms on the west coast. It doesn't have every mushroom. Mushrooms demystified is more comprehensive but it doesn't fit in your pocket "All That the Rain Promises, and More."

Not a great book but a reasonably entertaining one. I liked the pro-kid message and the happy ending.

Transmetropolitan takes place the silly, gritty, Cyber Punk world of 'The City.' Our hero is named Spider Israel and he is clearly heavily based on Hunter S. Thompson. After making his bones as a Gonzo journalist, Spider gets signed to a two-book contract. He takes his advance, buys a place in on 'The Mountain' and spends the next couple years keeping himself drugged out of his mind and armed to the teeth. The book opens: his publisher (who Spider affectionately refers to as 'Whorehopper') calls him up, demanding the two books that they paid him for years ago. Spider (still drugged out of his mind and armed to the teeth) is forced off the Mountain and back into the City or else be slapped with law suits. And its even more awesome than that sounds.

This wasn't what I thought was, that is a Disney history. Instead this gorgeously illustrated book can be summed up as: Animation is brought to life by drawing like-like characters. Maybe an arist would get out of it.
Well, gee - I finished all but the last 35 pages (WHY does a writer of history need to write 40 pages about WHY history is written?) - and the only thing I can say is, there's 6 months of my life I'll never get back. Now, that may be due partly to the fact that I just don't know that much about the Napoleonic era, or Russian history or social structure pre-revolution, so it wasn't quite as compelling as my usual 15-16th century European (English & French) fare. It might be due to the fact that there were far too many characters that went nowhere, added virtually nothing to the story, and thus made it much longer than necessary. But mostly, I think it's due to the fact that, aside from about 30-40 pages in the middle somewhere, I could care less about ANY of those people. 3 pages in, and I was sound asleep - thus the inordinate amount of time spent trying to plow through it. Not too sure why this is considered a "classic" or the "ultimate" - it was flat and meandering and seemed to be asking the entire time, "Why am I bothering to do any of this?" That's a good question. If I am going to read a book, it has to grab me at some point - like a Rutherfurd or M. George tome; this did not grab me, and I literally gave it EVERY opportunity. The only reason I finished it (and even though I didn't bother with the last 35 pages, I DO consider this a finish) is because I refused to let this book beat me - and I thought, maybe, it would eventually turn out to be Amazing; I was disappointed. I KNEW I should have picked up Anna Karenina instead...
