Don't bother with the movie -- the book is better.
More like 2.75. It was cute, but not the first book of this genre I'd recommend. Or even the 10th. Perhaps explained by the fact that the author apparently wrote more than 50 books in 10 years!

Absolutely thrilling and exciting from the first page to the last! I loved the fast pace, sharp protagonist and a very eventful plot. Very enjoyable read I'd love to read a continuation to!

A fictional account of Sir Winston Churchill's lifelong struggle with depression. Churchill's depression is "personified" ("doggified"?)by Black Pat, a walking, talking, 8 foot tall behemoth of a dog. The tale takes place around the time of Churchill's retirement from Parliament in July of 1964, and also involves a House of Commons librarian, Esther, who has her own struggles with depression after the suicide of her husband. How the two protagonists deal with Black Pat is the real theme of the book, throughout which Churchill's admonishment to "never consent to the descent", describes how both he and Esther cope.
I was lucky enough to see Carrie Fisher recite these stories on stage in D.C. and loved her! The book brought back all the laughs and tears ... but really out loud laughs!!! Highly recommend!
goofy but fun, some of the pop culture references get tired, but quick easy fun read, brain-candy
A well written pounding suspense novel about human relationship of failures and of love. A good read. Could not put it down.
