i've been reading this book for a really long time. its really slow, but i just hate not finishing books, so i've read two or three others since starting it. i read somewhere that some person read this book and loved it and found it life-changing or something like that. i can't remember who that person was. i guess the life-changing thing is: don't listen to other people's opinion, trust your gut -- this book just looked boring, and it is! except every once in awhile there is something that makes you think, "hm, maybe this is going somewhere." nope, it never really went anywhere for me. actually i felt that there was a lot of stuff in there that was supposed to mean things if you were looking for it, but it really annoyed me.

A star for each of the first four fifths of this novel, which were wonderful. And no star for the final fifth, which was a serious disappointment. That makes four stars, which is still pretty damn good. As is the book as a whole. Definitely worth reading.

Kit reminds me of myself. We both think pink is okay, but we're not crazy about it like most girls. I thought it was interesting how they used typewriters instead of computers. And I learned from this book that changes can be good. She gave me an idea to start writing newspapers for my family just like she did for her dad.

** spoiler alert ** I enjoyed this sequel more than the first book in the series. My memory of the first book is a little hazy, and yes, maybe you should read "If I Stay" before picking this up. But I have a secret- you don't really need to. Forman does a great job at bringing the reader up to speed, moving back and forth between high school, the present and everything in between. The book takes place several years after the first, and as the narrator struggles to come to terms with the missing years and "where she went", the story flows nicely, slowly filling in the gaps like an out of reach memory. Because the sequel picks up years later, the reintroduction of characters and past are not forced. Little bits of the puzzle are cleverly inserted through the entire book, so by the end you have a full picture of past and present. And to see the characters after so much time has passed is both satisfying and tragic. What happens after you make a vow you can't keep? When people grow apart? After you choose what's best for you, or think you do? Adam's voice is stronger than Mia's, who narrated the first book. Forman's writing is strong and I applaud her writing from Adam's point of view. So many times I'm disappointed by female authors writing from men's point of view, only to find it falls flat. Adam is whole and real, well thought out with his flaws, his prejudices and baggage. Very well done.

Ok, I admit it. I'm 29 and I love Harry Potter books. They are magical and imaginative. If you're over the age of 16 and considering reading them, just do it! Don't let anyone make you feel embarrassed about it!

I haven't completed this book and likely never will. The title had been on my mind and I hoped to find an answer in these pages. Unfortunately the piece is academic and relegates itself to obscurity by the same means as poetry itself does. In whatever sense this is literary criticism ( which may be, if at all, only a small one) it highlights the fact that, whatever the relevance of poetry, it doesn't matter.
I was very disappointed in how this ended. There was no closure! I think the author must be leaving it open for a sequel.

this is one of my favorite books from college. it taught me to see the world in a whole new way.
Unless I gain confidence in providence daily, what hope have I of facing martyrdom faithfully? That seems to me the ground of of John and Betty Stam's triumph. Their final hour they faced with calm, joyful, assurance of God's best, because they had practiced interpreting every "normal" day in the same spirit. Would that make a great spiritual discipline for a season? To journal this question end of every day: Since everything today came through the Father's hand, what might I gain from it?
