Even if the man did take certain liberties in writing this memoir, I really don't care at all. The voicing is supurb, completely original, and perfect for the content. I feel like a more well-rounded person that I have read it. Beautiful, sad, and beautiful.

This is the book for which DuBois should be remembered--rather than Souls of Black Folk, which is an early formulation that he later stepped away from. In Black Reconstruction, DuBois writes a powerful counter-narrative to the U.S. Reconstruction period. Looking at the way he organized his bibliography alone should humble and instruct today's scholars.

I never even got half way through this book. It's so confusing. I had high hopes for this book, but after a few pages my hopes came crashing down. I'm not the kind of person to hate a book so easily, but this one won without even trying.

I heard a long interview with Norah Vincent on NPR that fascinated me. She's incredibly articulate, and this was a fascinating experiment. I picked up the book a while after that and found her observations pretty astute. She's sympathetic (or became sympathetic) to the burdens that men carry, and it was illuminating to me. It was definitely an experiment of questionable ethics because it involved deception, but I think she drew a fair-enough box around it and operated within those rules so that I don't reject it. It's not a long read, but worth it.
Good book. Better than I remember The Sun Also Rises being. Big emotional twist at the end.

Honestly, anything by Jodi Picoult seems to be really good. This book is about a girl who was born in order to essentially save her sisters life. She feels as though that is her only purpose in life. It's really sad...
I have a full review of this book over at my blog: http://eruditeogre.blogspot.com/2011/... . Well worth reading!
A wide variety of stories on a wide variety of takes on the subject of vampires + birthdays. A very fun read, and the tales are just long enough to digest during a lunch-hour!

One of the best anti-war novels there is. I recommend reading and watching the movie from the 1930's.
