Not as funny as A Dirty Job, perhaps because of the constraining histiorical/bibilical contest. But still great, and irreverant without being antagonistic.
This book started off pretty great. I loved it at the beginning. I mean, the H/h, the setting, the plot, it all had great potential to be developed into a amazing book. But as the book progressed, I found myself not loving it so much anymore. You see, Sable had the kind of character that I liked seeing in a heroine. She was witty, funny, strong and all. But one thing I really couldn't stand was that she gave in to her desire too easily. When they were about to make love, she started thinking about how he hated her and stuff like that. So how did she actually continue everything? I mean, she had those thoughts, but yet, she just forgot it. I dunno how she does it. Maybe it's just me... As for Kain, I loved him. I mean, he was hot, rich, and so nice! Though he could be annoyingly arrogant, he was still such a gentleman and still so sweet. He was really nice to this other girl, I can't remember her name, Sable's co-worker? Anyway, though she was like all agog over him, he wasn't mean or just brushed her off cos of her young age. He was actually nice to her! I dunno, it just surprised me. Moving on, the reason I felt this story wasn't that good was mainly because it was pretty rushed and I have no idea why they even loved each other. It doesn't even make sense. In no way at all, did Kain even do anything sweet or just romantic towards Sable. But all of a sudden, he claims he's in love with her. I was just like, what?? As for Sable, I have no idea how just sleeping with a guy can make you fall in love with that person. Like, at least she could have sth about how she fell in love with him. I mean, its a little weird isn't it? A man comes up to you, is super nice to you. Both you are attracted to each other, fine. Then he suddenly starts bringing up your past and all those stuff. Next, he blackmails you. You sleep with him once and you think omg I'm gonna fall in love with him. Isn't it more of a fall in lust? I dunno, it didn't do it for me. How do you fall in love with someone who is so freaking mean to you? I dunno, it just didn't do it for me. I mean, if he was even a little nice to her, instead of just plain mean, I could accept it. I mean, what does she have to love him? The side that he shows her is mean and arrogant, but I can live with arrogant. But mean?? Seriously?? But one thing I really liked was when he made her stay even after Brent came back. I dunno, that was honestly the only thing that made me feel that he did love her or at least feel something really strong towards her. One more thing that I liked was their early banter. It was entertaining to read and I certainly enjoyed it. All in all, this could have been a good book, but because of the rushed pace and it not being able to convince me that they really loved each other, I didn't love it as much as I hoped to do. Considering that this was a HP book, I must say it was pretty disappointing.

Yeah. Just, unless you have a really strong will, just skip this one, because I could only read 3 pages a day at the most.

Oprah book club pick. I enjoyed it and felt that it was easier to read than the other two Faulkner's that were part of the Oprah Pick. It is not a happy book but then none of his are very happy. Main character is Joe Christmas - parallel to Jesus. The title of the book came from a remark that his wife once made about the fact that the light in August is different than any other time of the year.
Dirr's Encyclopedia of Trees and Shrubs is an excellent resource...if you live in the right part of the country. I happen to live in the southwest and was immediately disheartened when the first couple of trees I tried looking up in it were completely missing (e.g., mesquite and palo verde, both of which are quite common out here). I did find the third I tried, Desert Willow, so not all was lost. Beyond the bias against southwestern trees, the book is excellent, with information on the growing habits of thousands of trees. It needs to be made clear that this book is aimed at gardening and landscaping. It is not a scientific text or a field guide. It is focused on the growth characteristics of trees you might wish to plant or cultivate. I particularly like the special indices at the rear of the book which list plants by specific characteristics, such as flower color, fall color, time of flowering, fragrance, fruit, shade tolerance, salt tolerance, etc.

A few weeks ago, Lauren Oliver spoke at me school, and read to the group the first chapter of Delirium. I was intrigued, but had/have no money, and thus had to wait to get it from the library. And now, quite honestly, I'm scarred. I feel like my heart has just been ripped out of my chest. I don't think I'll be okay for at least a few days. If a book can get that kind of reaction out of me? Well, damn. Congratulations to the author. The only other novel that has done this to me is Harry Potter.

bacaan jaman SD. pengen baca ulang. semoga bukunya masih ada.
Absolutely outstanding, horrifyingly marvelous.
I loved this series. I would recommend this to: children, parents/babysitters, the imaginative, intellectuals who desire vibrant, enticing, enchanting fiction. I lead a spring break trip where we read aloud from one of the books in the series, and it was incredible to see how tangible each character is! It is a beautiful set of literature and each piece is strong enough to stand on it's own, but nicely woven together when read in order (or even out of order, assuming your memory is ample!)... Such a great classic.
This was my favorite of this series. I enjoyed every entry (except for the 'Bodies' essay....yuck)
