I can understand why it is on nearly everyone's best of science fiction list. He created a character you genuinely felt compassion for. Apparently he ruined it with every sequel.

REVIEW OF AUDIOBOOK & REREAD= OF EBOOK; JULY 2013 Narrator: Sean Crisden I enjoyed the ebook (read August 2011) but had given it only 3 stars because it was (according to my bookshelves) in Present Tense. However, what PT there was, was negligible in this reread of the ebook and listening to the audio version, if there even was any! Five brilliant stars for both story and narrator. The Narrator: It's Sean Crisden. 'nuf said. The Story: Heartwarming and sucked me in right from the start. I vaguely remember the story from back when I first read it and at this reread, my grievances (noted in my review of the ebook) still stands. Somehow, though, with the audiobook, these were diminished enough for me to enjoy BOAtK much more than when I was only reading it. Enough to give it 5 stars compared to the ebook on its own, though this could be due to Sean Crisden:p If it weren't for the flashbacks and the repetitive metaphors, this would be a book I'd listen to again. I hope the sequel, Who We Are, won't have Present Tense, flashbacks and ocean metaphors.

I read Still Alice, freaked myself out about the possibilities of Alzheimer's, lent it to my mom and never got it back. I think it made the rounds of all her friends at church, colleagues at work, etc. Genova is a neurologist and I read Left Neglected because of its insights into the human brain -- so I didn't mind if the writing was sometimes a bit clunky. The narrator was funny and wry and if the book felt predictable here and there, oh well. I learned something, and that's four-star-worthy.

This book sounded sooo good and I was very disappointed when i finally read it. Sometimes i didn't even know what was going on! It was also super sad toward the end and i don't like sad stories!

This is a story of a friendship between two young boys of different means. Their friendship is symbolized by their teamwork in the kite running race - vey interesting in itself. However, when the lack of character and a lie spoil their bond, the story becomes tragedy. It is beautifully and sensitively written. I saw the movie, but enjoyed the book more. However I cried more during the movie.
