The U.S. government sends some white women to live among and marry Indians in the west in order to help "civilize" them and help in the take-over of the territory. It is a fictional account, of course, but attempts to give the reader insight into the lives and beliefs of the Native Americans. The interesting characters and their experiences among the Indians was fascinating .

I can only seem to read Stephen Fry in a deck chair or on vacation, which I think qualifies his work as light reading. That said, it's usually pretty good light reading.

I enjoyed this book. Anatoly is hot headed, street smart, loyal, sexy, and all about his business. I keep askin myself Dmitry or Anatoly? The father or the son? I haven't come up with that answer yet. Good book. I'm ready for the 4th book, to come already.

An Adorable 4 Star Contemporary Romance Take a Chance on Me is my first Kate Davies and it definitely is not going to be my last if Ms. Davies can spin a tale such as this one which contains all the right elements that makes a romance so worth your time. The setting in this romance is a unique one. I say this because I don’t remember reading an adult romance that takes place in a high school, unless it involves high school students. This title took me into unchartered waters and delivered a very well written romance that would stay with me for a long time even afterwards. Tom Cameron is the head of security at Summit High and prefers his lone wolf lifestyle which serves him pretty well. Four years back Tom had served as a cop until a domestic violence call which had come in a few hours before the end of his shift one night had gone horribly wrong spiraling Tom’s life out of control. Combined with media frenzy and the blame game which had pointed fingers towards him, Tom had lost his job and his marriage had dissolved soon afterwards leaving behind a man who guards his heart in steel barricaded armor and keeps his emotions close to him. Jessica Martin is the newest recruit at Summit High brought in as a substitute teacher for the remainder of the year. Being a teacher has always been what Jessica has wanted and dreamed about regardless of how much her parents had tried to sway her mind. And irrespective of the fact that her parents are extremely disappointed with Jessica for choosing to do what she loves, Jessica is thrilled at the prospect of being hired even as a substitute teacher and has high hopes and every intention of becoming a full time teacher at Summit High if she plays her cards right. Klutzy and a bit messy in an adorable way, Jessica is a the exact opposite of Tom who keeps his life ordered and without any sort of clutter in it, which is just the way he likes it – or so he thinks. When Ms. Klutzy and adorable meets Mr. Remoteness himself, sparks fly even from the first encounter itself. Tom who has never had a problem before in brushing aside any of the attempts by fellow staff members to befriend him finds himself tempted something fierce when he locks eyes with the beautiful and green eyed Jessica who makes his heart tumble inside out. Both Jessica and Tom’s intentions to avoid each other at all costs go awry in the most delicious possible ways when both of them find themselves in each other’s arms, heating things up to unbearable levels – something I just loved about this story. It takes a while but these two work through the hurdles and problems in their path to find a love that is long lasting, leaving me grinning from ear to ear at the end. One of the highlights of the story was both Jessica and Tom. I’m always very much intrigued with heroes who want to isolate themselves and go out of their way to create their lone wolf lifestyle. And when their match turns out to be the exact opposite of themselves, in this case the adorable Jessica who has so much heart and has the ability to draw the man trapped inside of Tom to come out and play, needless to say I love these kinds of stories. And Ms. Davies has done a fine job in creating both their characters and giving them both just the right touch to make me fall in love with both of them. And lord, Tom is a man who certainly knows the art of kissing making my toes curl inward each and every time he decides to kiss his woman into a helpless puddle. All in all a very satisfying read which has definitely made me curious to seek out the books in her back list and give them a go. Recommended for those who love a good contemporary romance featuring a couple you would root for right from the very beginning. Head onto http://bit.ly/ib2ipp to read the review with quotes.

It had moments of brilliance in the vein of Catch-22, but just couldn't hold it together for the duration of the novel. An interesting idea, and still very clever, but overall it was too much of a mess to stay interesting. Definitely not a must read like Catch-22.

One of the top three books I have ever read. I love this book and recommend it often to anyone I can. If you like romance, sci-fi, or just a thoroughly enjoyable read, this book is for you. Honestly, books don't get any better than this.

Self-Editing For Fiction Writers by Renni Browne and Dave King is a book all writers—especially self- publishing fiction writers need to read! It might hurt a little—I know it did for me but in the end this book helped me more than anything I’ve read about copy editing. Having said all that I want to say that it must be taken with a grain of salt. Some of it is right on and some of it comes from someone who—I think—doesn’t like writers that much. The authors continually talk about the ‘hack writers’. If you do everything they say you will end up with a bland, small voices, piece of paper. That’s a mean thing to say about this book but its good—great—points far out weight the bad. That is why I give it 5 Stars. This book will make you a better writer! As for myself, I learned so much from this book about copy editing that I will read it again and again—even the parts that upset me. It has help make my books professional. I do use an editor and I consider that a must for any writer wanting to be an author. But a writer can’t write a first draft and then step away. You must be involved at every point of producing a good novel. I would put this book in the “must read” category for novelist.

(This review is of the first edition) This is a great book for reminding the reader of the things they learned in high school and college. It is also pretty good at teaching you the things that you should have learned. So, it really does as it promises -- fills in the gaps in your education. That said, it in itself is incomplete, but that is probably how it must be. Some sections give short shrift to various subject areas and really don't give the reader enough information at all. For example, this was apparent in the sections on Psychology, which focuses exclusively on analysis and leaves out important formative scholars like Skinner and all social scientific approaches to psych. However, most chapters give you exactly enough to get the basics of a subject down -- but they are the basics. Which again, is exactly what this book is about. I agree with the other reviewer that anything you don't know will take you several re-reads to get it down pat. However, getting the fundamentals of whatever subjects you are weak in is easy as the chapters are nicely organized into smaller, clearly marked, fact paragraphs. Overall, I recommend this book highly for anyone who wants to learn the basics of some subject they do not know or remember the subjects they have forgotten years out of school.

When you Dare is the first book I have read by Lori Foster and also the first in a new series. We are introduced to the super sexy, majorly alpha Dare Macintosh. Smexy approves. Dare has made his living rescuing women who have been kidnapped by human traffickers. Dare has helped many and made a lot of money and is now winding down his career. That is until a good friend of his is kidnapped and taken to Tijuana. During her rescue he finds Molly Alexander among the women caged, abused and half starved. After he gets his friend to safety, he realizes Molly’s kidnapping is different. She isn’t the beautiful, young girl that are normally sold by white slavers. There is another reason she was taken, and he wants to get to the bottom of it. Molly is a popular author, who lives a quiet life in Ohio. Waking up from nine days of pure horror, she finds comfort and safety with Dare. Even though he has such a large presence and a violent edge, she trusts him immediately. Dare promises to keep her safe until he can uncover who is after her. I’ll be honest and say the cover totally drew me to this book. Hello hot man chest and big gun. And Dare definitely does this cover justice. He leads a very rigid, strict life. He expects perfection and 100% effort from those around him. When Molly comes into the picture, his overprotectiveness goes into full throttle. Although this book is a romantic suspense, there is not a ton of action. Yet, with Dare’s personality, it felt like there was more suspense than there really was. He is always on edge and always prepared. He is so overly cautious and just a bad ass. I think he is a really well done alpha male. Which then leads me to Molly. I had a very hard time liking her and it is hard for me to pinpoint exactly why. I like that she is more on the plain side and lacks confidence with her appearance after nine days of being beaten. But for most of the book I didn’t connect with her. She comes across as a little too perfect. I would classify her as a Mary Sue heroine. She just acts too perfect in every situation and it really grated on my nerves. Dare sees her as this strong, proud woman and this really attracts her to him. But I had a hard time seeing that. Everything is just wrapped up too nice and tidy with her and I just didn’t like her. Although I didn’t like Molly, the story entertained me and I enjoyed Dare. I’ll be checking out more from Lori Foster.
