** spoiler alert ** Set in 1985 this graphic novel shows a very different world, one where Nixon was still in the White House and whole world stood on the brink of world war 3. One were masked adventurers (super heroes) are outlawed. I wanted to like this, given the reviews - that this is an iconic piece of literature that changed a whole genre. I haven't seen the movie, although I wanted to - but I can't handle violence in movies - so I got the book instead. The end was just too much for me. For a masked adventurer to come to believe that he can put the humanity back in the world, by making them believe Aliens are invading (wiping out millions of people in the process)- seeing a super hero go crazy, was strangely fascinating. But then for other super heroes to agree to keep his secret - in the process for Dr Manhattan to pull his thumb out of his butt and actually do something (when he'd stood by and done bugger all when others died), it was just weird. The one character, who never surrendered - who believed totally in what he was doing and was doing it for the right reasons - the one who wanted to expose the real truth behind what happened, was the one who ended up dead (OK, so he had killed several people).

Bear, Otter and the Kid written by TJ Klune was a sweet coming of age story, It starts with a 17 year old Derrick McKenna aka Bear is left with his five your old brother Tyson aka the Kid after their mother runs out on them, the day before his 18th birthday. His friends rally around him, supporting him and helping him through the huge upheaval in his life, but one stood out Otter. Otter who is gay brother of Bears best friend, one night shortly after his mother leaves Bear gets drunk and kisses Otter, from there decisions are made and Otter leaves town the next morning. Bear continues his life taking care of his little brother, and dating the girl he had known most of his life Anna, but then Otter comes back three years later. That is when the story really takes off, causing Bear to reevaluate himself and his life up to this point; it follows him through tough decisions, which if his witty then 9 year old brother didn’t help him with, would have swallowed him. The Kid was by far my favorite character in the story; he seemed to see what no one else could, as well as break a situation down to the bare bones, which his brother really needed at times. This story makes you laugh, get angry, makes you sad, and at times had me on the verge of tears. It is truly a heartwarming tale, about dealing with the obstacles thrown to us in life and trying to make the best decisions, as well as embracing who you truly are. I look forward to reading more from this author as well from the publisher Dreamspinner Press.

So! It isn't nearly as good as Carey's first two trilogies, but its waaaay better than the most recent one. Nothing in the way of fun sexiness, which is surprising in terms of cheesy fantasy novels. But! It's fun, if you don't want to think, though it isn't as good as I had hoped. whatevs. Diversion.

One of my new favorite authors. She does a nice fantasy/romance thing, but this series also has interesting theology. And her characters are distinct and likeable. But the best part is the worldbuilding. I really feel like she knows the geography of her worlds inside and out, like it's a living breathing place that really could exist somewhere out there.

The Brothers is an interpretation of what might have happened during the great war in heaven. It was a time where families were torn apart and brothers literally fought brothers. In this particular book, there is a family of four, Elizabeth, Sam, Luke, and Ammon. When Beth, Ammon and Luke find that their brother Sam is missing they fear for the worst. Has he joined the dark side? can he still see the light? Now the children have to fight their own fears such as their fears of birth, pain, and also their fear of losing their brother and family. I really enjoyed this book and i think that chris stewart did a fantastic job writing it. I really enjoyed the way that everyone was portrayed and it really gets you thinking. However i do warn that you need to take in the fact that this is a fictional book based on some fact but you can't take everything in there as gospel knowledge/truth. I just say before you go reading it, be ready to know what is truth and what is not. Again i thoroughly enjoyed the book. :)

** spoiler alert ** The best of all the saga, no doubt. I even liked better than The Borrowers Afloat. I enjoyed the introduction of Peagreen, and I find him more interesting than Spiller. I do feel somewhat sorry for Arriety and Ms. Menzies, that friendship could have a lot of potential. All in all, it has been delightful to read the borrower´s adventures. I am sure I will take up their adventures somewhere again in the future!
