The first story made me laugh outloud a bunch of times. We'll see where the rest take me.

I often keep thinking about the different presentations of time the this books reveals. It starts with Einstein, but really is about our capacity to imagine and attempt to experience life in a new way. I am reminded of complicated Augustine's discussion of time in the Confessions , and his idea of how God experiences time. I found myself much more capable and clearly able to think about different concepts of time. Maybe it's a generational gap, but this this work has me dreaming about possibilities instead of clarification.

This is one of my all time favorites, and I'm pretty picky when it comes to books. The best part about this book is that you forget that you're reading while you're reading it. The author uses such rich, descriptive language that you are easily able to put yourself in the story. I think that this story is sad and beautiful and extremely interesting. It's amazing to me that the author is a man. Note: This book is much deeper than the movie, so if you didn't like the movie, you'll most likely still love this book.

I picked up this book as a reference for my mentoring role with high school students. It's a book written for young women to encourage them in ways they can change the world. In their words, "young women really need to know, in the innermost fiber of their beings, that they can change the world. And they need practical knowledge about how to do it." Mitchell and Goad explore the steps to help motivate young women to find their calling and to go after it. When I first saw a chapter about princesses I wanted to stop reading but I stuck with it and found it to be the opposite of what I assumed it would be. Instead they say, "God's idea of a princess is a warrior! Though you live in a world that makes every attempt to lure your heart toward superficial things, as a princess in God's kingdom, God calls you to battle!" They challenge girls in the idea that women that change the world aren't the ones usually following all of society's roles. The authors dig into issues of learning to say no and to stick the mission and path that you choose or you can get burnt out super quick. They explore that your calling is in who you are and that it just takes a bit of time exploring yourself to find the things that give you energy, fuel you and you'd do even if you didn't make money from it. I was glad that the authors choose to touch on valid points for young women like gossip, teamwork and how to stick with it when you run into obstacle after obstacle. Overall, I think it's a great book to read with a young woman and work through the questions at the end of each chapter. I think this book is a great tool for a youth leader and groups that want to motivate young women. One of my favorite parts from the book sums it up for me, "Never, ever believe the lie that you are "too young" to make a difference, "too young" to lead the way, or "too young" to seek out God's plans for your future. In God's terms there's no such thing as "too young"!"
I debated long and hard over 4 vs 5 stars. Amazing book, fantastic writing style, but it didn't make me want to read it from start to finish in a night. I just wanted to keep coming back to it, at 15 minute increments.
Strange, epic, bewildering, disturbing, funny, and brilliant.
