Fun book which draws upon mythology. Quite like an acid trip at the end. I certainly enjoyed it. Little doesn't hold back here. Also recommended: The Ignored

Not sure I'd be too quick to call a book like this transgressive and brave, like the descriptions I read about it did. Nearly every story was written by middle-class woman over the age of 50, about completely mundane, heteronormative sexual experiences. I believe there was one essay by a woman of color, and ZERO written about or by any lesbians or bisexuals. There was even a transphobic piece, which was just loooovely to find in a book that's supposed to be inclusive and empowering. Beyond all that, the writing was so middlebrow and vanilla it was a tough slog, prompting a lot of eyerolls. Look elsewhere, feminist lovers of good writing!

I read this originally years ago for a work book discussion and I enjoyed it more this time around. I read it much more slowly and at my leisure so I didn't feel too bogged down by all the information. I loved all the case studies and how he is able to make some very technical sounding theories relatable and understandable. While it was interesting, I'm not sure it's going to change anything for me though.

Slightly more interesting than "Almost A Gentleman." I think I made it through 50 pages instead of 35. Her prose is just leaden.

Somewhat light but fun overview of the history of cryptography to present day.

This was a good read, but guessed the end far too early. That said, still enjoyed reading it
Set in Canada, this mystery is a cozy. A small town is horrified when one of their own biddies is murdered. Chief Inspector Armand Gamache, who, of course, is an eccentric investigator, is called in on Thanksgiving Day. He begins to check out the whole town because with the age of the victim it's difficult to tell whether this was one that was brewing for a while or not. Victim had just had one of her paintings accepted by a juried show. The first one she has ever been brave enough to enter. (clue there) Author pretty good at describing people, scenes, and feelings. Tries to make the detective a little too sympathetic by his trying to help along a newbie officer, who is not only unpleasant, but you can't figure out how she got that far. Just tired of these quirky detectives who are good at their jobs, but in danger of losing them because they don't do them the way others would. So no other mysteries are solved by following procedure?

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Even better than Going Too Far, imho. LOOOOOVED it. So okay. It's common knowledge that Jennifer Echols is a genius. Going Too Far was one of the most outstanding debuts ever in YA (in my book). It created a crowd of fangirls salivating for more Echols' dramatic romances. But her next two books, while very enjoyable, did not compare to the first. Forget You had one of the most steamy awesome scenes I've read, it still didn't match John After's and Meg's awesome story. Now, with her hardcover debut she has done it again. SO MUCH BETTER. Leah is a freakin' PILOT. How effin kickass is that? I'm such a wuss to even hop on a plane that, that fact alone blew my mind. She also lives in a trailer and struggles to eat, which makes her my hero. And then there's the boys. Realistic fiction love triangle with brothers? 'Nough said. Even though it's always pretty obvious who she'd end up with, it was still a delicious adventure to read about the brothers and all the twists. The story sucks you in very fast, and just like Going Too Far, you have to start figuring things out on your own as you go, which makes the pace that much more awesome. I'm glad it doesn't dwell on unimportant details and it sticks pretty much to the romance part of it. Excellent pacing, well-developed amazing characters, and sigh-worthy romance, need more? I don't. If you love contemporary YA and sexy romance this is a MUST read.
