it took me a while to finish reading this book (about eight months? yikes!). its about 600 pages long and, although it starts interestingly enough, by the middle part, it evolved into some sort of travel brochure for eastern European countries with vampires thrown in, heehee. the premise about Dracula was really interesting and i have to admit that kostova writes well. however i literally had to push myself not to give up on it. the ending was suspenseful, at least, and it more or less was an ok reward for sticking with the book. one tiff i have, though, is: a girl (barely in high school) supposedly embarks on a journey of her own in order to find her father who's supposed to be duelling with a vampire? i would never let my own daughter go to wal-mart on her own, much less cross several countries (alone with a boy, no less!) in order to face an evil incarnate! the girl has to be really mature or very lucky (which she was). anyway, if you are very much into Bram Stoker's Dracula, or into eastern european history, this book is for you.

Kritikan banyak nyelip kalimat bahasa Inggris? gamasalah buat saya asal masi ngerti maksudnya apa, hehe. Lagian Ika kayaknya bahasa Indonya emang ancur (sotoyyy). Tapi akhir cerita emang agak aneh menurut saya sih.

The Time-riders series are four books of fun and hours of reading experience enjoyed to the fullest. The four Books are Time-Riders ,Day of the Predator, the Doomsday Code and The Eternal War all of then fun and enjoyable.I am now going to write a few quotes from the books. Maddy Carter was meant to die on a plane Sal Vickram should have died in a fire yet moments before someone mysteriously appeared and said “take my hand” But Liam Maddy and Sal are not rescued. They are recruited by an agency no one knows exists, with only one purpose-to fix broken history.Because time travel is here and there are those who would go back in time and change the past...Day Of The Predator. When Maddy opens a time window when she shouldn't have,Liam is marooned sixty-five million years ago in the hunting ground of an, until now, undiscovered species of predator. Can Liam make contact with Maddy before he is torn to shreds by dinosaurs? And the world is taken over by a unimaginable realty.. The Doomsday Code. In 1994 British computer hacker Adam Lewis finds his name in a coded manuscript that is almost one thousand years old.How did Adam’s name get there and why...? Confronted by Adam in 2001,the TimeRiders travel back to Sherwood Forests in 1194 to discover the origins of the ancient message. But when a strange hooded man appears to be looking for the same thing, they begin to wonder what terrible threat this cryptic link from the past holds for the future.. The Eternal War A time wave has struck that alters the entire history of the American civil war.Abraham Lincoln has followed Liam into the present from 1831-and now the world is in a dangerous state of limbo... If the TimeRiders can’t return Abraham to the past the civil war will never end.Can Maddy stall two colonels on both sides long enough to save the future? Well there you go! All of these books are 458 to 265.Quite long aren’t they! I really do recommend getting all of Alex Scarrow books. The historical detail is just amazing as well as the pacing. You never now what is going to happen, every story is linked well. It’s a series that are together and you can switch the order around and they will still make sense.I can’t wait until the new ones come out there going to be great! The Time Riders series are long and very enjoyable they should keep your face in that one book every day.It all feels real like our there withe them saving the world, making the sure Nazis don’t role the world, the civil war ends, the brits don’t become invaded by the french and much much more!! Over all this series is amazing, every book just great make sure you buy every one,you won’t waste your money!

The author of this book states that he wrote it while in solitary confinement. It's a trip into his childhood, where he came of age in California's Juvenile system. It takes place throughout his childhood years, beginning with an early stay at age 6 (along with a rape by a counselor). The rest is his teenage years spent trying to survive the brutal system of rape, violence, and sadistic counselors (also known as prison guards). It's very chilling. I couldn't peel myself away from this book, even though it has graphic descriptions of rapes and brutal fights between gangs of boys not even old enough to shave. The fact that the author even survived that system, which incidentally took place in the 1960s, impresses me. When I was a teenager, a few friends of mine ended up in a juvenile drug rehab center at Horsham, PA, and afterwards they were extremely shaken up. It turned out later they had been raped. Not much has changed in the last 40 years. Abbott and his companion quickly rise to the top of the ruling prison gang, which he uses to attempt several escapes. Each time, he nearly makes it. It's amazing that he goes for his parents, who are totally excluded from being able to help their boy. He forms a love relationship with his companion which he must hide in order to survive. The counselors maintain the order by daily beatdowns and shake-ups, and when it comes down to it, the boys are treated exactly like adults. The prison system makes people have to fight for their survival almost daily, or be pushed to a fate of worse than death. It makes the reader wonder why anyone thinks that prisons can reform any person. Trapping someone in a room and punishing them for years with the most sadistic people doesn't seem like a good way to reform anyone. In the end, prison, for adults or kids, really just sweeps the problem of emotional disturbance underneath the carpet. Nowadays, a few million reside in United States prisons, the largest such population in the world (even more than China, which has 5 times the population). We're at a time when the ruling classes think it's better to completely separate millions into boxes than to even give a carrot to oppressed communities. Dwight Abbott remains in jail today, and he says he wouldn't be there unless the Juvenile Youth Authority had twisted him as a human being to the point where the only place he could exist was in a prison. They destroyed him as a teenager at a critical point in any human being's development. Why? If you want a window into how a person can be destroyed, read this book. At the same time, if you want to see how a person can keep some amount of love and hope for a better day (away from the prison), read this book as well.

I never could understand how someone could cry from laughing until I read this book. The chapter on French Easter traditions had me rolling; tears streaming down my cheeks. I even cried from laughing the next day as I tried to explain it to a friend. Best Sedaris book, by far!

I struggled through the first 100 pages and at that point I wouldn't have guessed I'd end up giving this novel a 5-star rating. But my patience was rewarded as this is one of the most memorable books I've ever read. This is my 4th Irving novel and I've liked everyone of them a lot so I think it's time I add him to my favorite writers list and read the rest of the collection. He really is a brilliant writer.

** spoiler alert ** This was a great book. The main characters are three sister, Vivi Ann the youngest, Aurora the middle sister, and Winona the oldest sister. Everything came easy for Vivi Ann, she was a beautiful girl and full of life. Aurora was married to Richard and had two kids, she was the peacemaker in the family. Winona was a successful lawyer, but she was overweight and unlucky in love. They lost their mother when they were growing up and their father was a cold man who was really only concerned about what people would say. Winona had always been in love with Luke, but he fell for Vivi Ann. Luke asked her to marry him, but she only accepted after she kissed Dallas, the new guy in town. Dallas was a half-breed, with a shady past. He had long-hair and tattoos, and a mean attitude. There was instant chemistry between him and Vivi. The town was talking and she wanted to save face so she said she would marry Luke. But, she was totally addicted to Dallas. She gets caught by Winona in bed with him, and then Winona tells Luke about it. Vivi and Dalas get married and Luke leaves town because he can't stay around and watch Vivi with Dallas. Unfortunately Winona thought she could be around to pick up the pieces for him. But he leaves town. Vivi gets pregnant. They have a son and call him Noah. Unfortunately, Cat Morgan, the local lady of the evening and friend of Dallas's is murdered and Dallas with his shady past gets blamed for it. He gets convicted and gets life in prison without parole. Vivi asks Winona to represent him but Winona says she won't. Partly because she is not that kind of attorney and partly because she thinks he did it. They try to appeal, but to no avail. Dallas loves Vivi so much that he divorces her. Vivi really loses it she turns to drugs and really neglects Noah. It's not until she gets in an accident that almost kills them both, that she straighten up. The years past and Noah grows up and has a hard time in school because the kids make fun of him because of his Dad. He starts to get in trouble and even though Vivi and Winona are not on the best of terms, Vivi asks Winona to hire Noah for the summer to work on the new house she bought. He meets the girl next door and starts to feel better about himself. He also reads an article about DNA testing and they petition to have the DNA from the crime scene retested. They find out that Dallas did not kill Cat, so he gets released from prison. Dallas, Vivi and Noah begin their family life over again. The main thing about this book is that the three sisters were there for each other no matter what. As they said, sisters come first. Aurora ended up getting divorced because her husband cheated on her, and Luke finally falls for Winona, and Vivi Ann gets her husband back.
