This book inspired me to do research, as I am woefully ignorant on many historical issues. Very few books have made me cry, but this was written in such a way that every person's struggle you could connect with. I typically do not care for time jumps; in this case it only added to the story. Kristin Hannah grasps female connections and relationships in a very real and touching way. A very beautiful story that made me an even bigger Kristin Hannah fan.

I really enjoyed this novel. It was sexy and lyrical, just like a novel about sex and food should be. It was nice to read a novel utilizing magical realism, but not using the traditional structure of oppression. Aside from Toni Morrison, this is the first female author of the genre that I've read and it was wonderful.
