Finshed reading this to my younger sons last night; when I revisit Laura Ingalls Wilder these days, it tends to be her older ones. As a writer, she feels slightly less confident in this book: the chapters are more instructive and the use of stories-within-the-story was something she grew out of after this book. But it's still glorious. I love the honey tree, Ma making hats, Laura's jealousy of oh-so-perfect Mary, the astonishment of seeing a town for the first time; the excitement of the dance. I can't help noticing how much better off Pa was when he lived here: cows, pork, honey, abundant and varied vegetables, family around: there's a much more prosperous feel. Not for the first time, I feel for Ma having to become a pioneer wife when it's obviously not really her thing. Laura's love for Pa is never clearer than in this book: where most farming books end with harvenst, or the coming of warm weather, she finishes as winter closes in again, because winter means having Pa at home in the evening, with his fiddle and the security he brings them. The ending where she locates the little house in the present 'This is now, it can nevedr be long ago' is moving and elegaic. My boys enjoyed it, but not as much as my husband (who has strong elements of Pa in him, both as a parent and a handyman), who loved every chapter.

Remember me is another book by Sophie Kinsella. It's about this girl, Lexi Smart who gets into a car crash. When she wakes up, she's forgotten three years of her life. During the three years that she has forgotten many things have changed: She's gotten married, she's been appointed head of the company she used to work for as a minor position, she's broken up with old boyfriends and had a very serious affair, and all of the people who used to be her friend (three years ago) now know her as The Cobra, or The b**** boss from hell. Not knowing any of this, she has to go back into her life, and readjust, just waiting for her memory to come back. I really enjoyed this book, and it's a bit like the movie 13 going on 30, if you've watched that. I would suggest this to anyone who likes Sophie Kinsella's books like Shopaholic, and also anyone who likes "girly" type books (kind of). Hope you read it!

Hard to read because it's so emotionally exhausting, but VERY eye-opening of poverty. The style is phenomenal in expressing the characters. Definitely a book to remember.

It's a great story about the trials and tribulations of a family. It's interesting how society can deem people to be complete reprobates yet at the same time be incredibly bright. It shows the fine line between funcional and dysfunctional families. Likewise, it has stories about making the most of whatever you have. It offers a really different perspective about growing up impoverished, constantly on the move, and yet enlightened at the same time. It's a great read, and once you start reading you'll find it difficult to put down.
Really touching story. Any animal lover would enjoy this book. Jon Katz does a great job of revealing his faults, curiosities and his joys where his dogs are concerned.

Finally, after four books of nothing, something happens in this book...at the very, very end of the book. Honestly, I felt this one was a throwback to some of the earlier books in the series, but it still ain't all that grand.
Scariest book I've ever read.
I found the book confusing with a tendency to jump from person to person and from time to time. I gave it three stars instead of two because it contained a lot of interesting information about the problems with church government and finance. I was also glad to see that the author managed to be highly critical of the Church without seeming anti-Catholic.

Really thought this book had no redeemable quality at first, but even though there were elements of the book I just do not care for the plot turned out to be incredible. 5 stars for the story, but can only give it a 2 for how bad the language was and also sexual stuff I did not care for. so compromising with a 3.
