A really interesting read, and gave me lots more graphic novels to add to my TBR! Great if you're interested in getting away from the superhero side of graphics.

I cheated and skimmed read large chunks. Otherwise my brain would have tred to escape due to boredom. I've never been great with political rants, and got a bit 'skip to the end' about the whole thing. Central characters kept me going! xxx S

My daughter Nicola suggested that this would be a welcome birthday present for me. I can't imagine why - it is about a teenage boy going to sea as a junior officer in the Merchant Navy in the 1950s. Wait! That sounds familiar! When I was only a couple of chapters in, already the nostalgia is flowing, the lamps were swinging and the weevils were popping out of the hard tack. Excellent. A very satisfying read for me because it brought so much back. But also I think it would be a good book for people without those experiences. It is entertaining and paints a good picture of a life which has sadly, along with most of Britain's merchant fleet, passed into history.

I recommended this to my nephew recently and then had second thoughts about the appropriateness of it. So, I decided to reread it as it had been many years since I had read it. What a wonderful book. I'm certain I got more out of a second reading than I got from the first, but that isn't uncommon in great works. Brendan Doyle is convinced by an eccentric millionaire to go back in time to 1810 to spend one evening there hearing a talk given by Coleridge. That was the plan but it goes horribly wrong. Mix in some double crossing, Egyptian myths and sorcery, throw in some Dickensian street criminals and a cameo by Lord Byron and you have a rollicking adventure....but perhaps just a bit too much for my 11 year old nephew.

This series is one of the best YA series that I've read in a while. The ethical, personal, technolgical and nature vs progress dillemas spin depper and deeper in this book. Tally's journey is never easy, but this time it seems like the fate of the rebels, and perhaps civilization itself, rests on her shoulders more than ever. The conclusion of Tally's story is heart wrenching and bittersweet. This book is great but make sure that you read them in order- don't spoil the ending! Book 4 to come next- Not Tally's story but set years down the road.

This book is so powerful that it destroyed the word 'paradigm.'
the batman story in this is awesome.
Ugh... took me half the book to get into it, and then, just as I was starting to get hooked, came the most horrific and violent scene, which caught me off guard and was another turn-off. The second half was much better, granted, but I really expected a LOT more after all the hype. Worst of all, my mother-in-law LOVED this book! Read all 3! Watched all 3 movies, with subtitles! WHAT?!?!
