Finally finished this: all 781 pages of it (plus notes). It's a funny, picaresque 18th century novel, grittier and cruder than Henry Fielding, but also a novel that could be a couple hundred pages shorter without any serious loss. By mid-novel the misadventures become almost random, as if Smollett is making the plot up as he goes along, and at one point Peregrine disappears for over 100 pages while we hear the (very topical) memoirs of a lady of quality. In the end, though, after getting out of debtor's prison, Peregrine gets his Emilia and an 80,000 pound inheritance. I am probably a better person for having read this.

I liked it but have grown to expect more from Francine Rivers. I had recently read another book with mother and daughter issues (Winter Garden), which I liked better. Perhaps the conversation that came out of discussing this book would be very interesting, because every mother and daughter have a unique relationship with many factors playing into it. I liked it enough to read the sequel.

I love John Irving's books and this was the first one I ever read. I borrowed it from a girl at work and was immediatly hooked. For the next 2 years I proceeded to read everything Irving's written and have not been disappointed in any of them. "The sound like something trying to not make a sound" is fantastic. One of the things I really love about his writing is how he lets one of the characters go off and write in a completely different voice.

This is the third Sigma Force novel in the series and my favorite so far. While the plot is barely believable, Mr. Rollins does us the courtesy of letting us know in the author's note at the end of the book that much of the research and scientific jargon from the book is real or being explored today. I think that made the book scarier. Lots of action partnered with some real good philosophical questions about quantum science and evolution made this book akin to a poor man's DaVinci's Code with more gunfire.
This was a good book that kept me reading until the end

Anthology. Very, very uneven. I couldn't read a few of the stories and two were excellent. More erotic romance than paranormal. Not my thing.
Wasn't expecting all these short stories to be romances! I hope my love life is never as tragically complicated as the characters in these stories.
