I guess I am happy for the freedom that I have compared to what Winston Smith had.

Snyder creates an very promising world with an interesting concept--Yelena's a prisoner granted a reprieve in order to be trained as a food tester (so, necessarily, a poison expert) for the king. The romance in the second half was not as much to my liking (but I'm not a teenager). Library note: PG-13, some descriptions of torture and rape (not radically explicit but potentially disturbing), sexual innuendo

April is usually fated to be "National Poetry Month", something I both revel and fear.... as a teacher, it gives me an excuse to toot the boisterous horns of poetry; at the same time, however, it saddens me that we must designate thirty days to the art, as if it would be otherwise forgotten. At last year's Dodge Poetry Festival, I happened to hear Ted Kooser reading some of his poems, and came to love this collection. One of my favorites is a very simple one, named "Pocket Poem": If this comes creased and creased again and soiled as if I'd opened it a thousand times to see if what I'd written here was right, it's all because I looked too long for you to put in your pocket. Midnight says the little gifts of loneliness come wrapped by nervous fingers. What I wanted this to say was that I want to be so close that when you find it, it is warm from me.

The story most people are familiar with is Wil Wheaton's appearance in Stand By Me, followed by his portrayal of the oft-maligned Wesley Crusher in Star Trek: The Next Generation, after which he completely fell off the radar. In a sense, this is the story of What Happened to Wil Wheaton After Star Trek. But it's more than that, too. It is an unabashedly honest (and often hilarious) account of one man's journey from struggling and extremely insecure actor to confident and content writer. Though it probably helps to be at least passingly familiar with the Star Trek universe, you don't have to be a die-hard fan to appreciate Wheaton's writing. He learns and shares many lessons about regret, validation, and acceptance. I devoured this book in about a day and enjoyed every minute of it. Wheaton has lots of very good and important things to say about acting, blogging, and celebrity, but there is also plenty of humor to keep things rolling. Definitely recommended.

I read this book over the course of 24 hours. The book was based on the authors observations and some interviews when available. The author was able to tie in the varied storylines quite well.

This book was fascinating. I have a better understanding of the circumstances that made it easy for the taliban to recruit children who just wanted and eduacation and turn them into extremists. I was amazed that this man could do all he did to help the people in Pakistan and Afganistan.

This story is age appropriate for students of all ages. It talks about a boy named Alexander and the "terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day" he is having. It seems as though nothing is going his way and his day is very unlucky. I would love to read it to my students for pleasure reading when there is extra time to spare. It can also help students gain perspective from others' point of view.

Again, I wish for a 3.5 star rating. I did really like it. Be warned it is every bit as dark as PUSH (Precious) was. There were parts that were a little unclear and more time was spent on dreams while some of the important stuff seemed to happen in a flash (or one sentence). Overall, it was some good story-telling.

Nothing But Trouble After Midnight By Kimberly Blackadar is about a young girl and how she found the evil and the love in the world. Chloe Preston had a great life with an okay boyfriend, they left one another and then she fell in love and her life was perfect but then something dark came down on her and took away the happiness, joy and her love and she doesn’t know if she will ever get it back. I do recommend this book; it has an intriguing plot and a twist in the story. It shows the hardships of life and how there is good in everything.
