Loved Little House on the Prairie growing up and loved reading about Alison's life growing up as Nellie Oleson. She includes some tough topics (i.e. her brother's drug addiction, abuse) but she does look at life in a humorous way. Laughed out loud at many parts of the book.

It took me quite some time to get through reading Crazy Love because I found myself only gravitating towards it in times when I found myself feeling lost. Being able to read about the ability to give yourself wholly over to something greater than yourself was inspiring and refreshing, and surprisingly Crazy Love was not as judgemental or preachy as I would have expected it to be. I'm not completely sold on the "Kool-aid" that Chan is trying to slyly promote regarding his own leap of faith and "cool" religion, but I could appreciate the message this book was trying to convey at its core.

GetBackers is a fun manga, but, in my opinion, is actually more accessible in anime form. The manga art is unusually hard to follow - particularly in fight scenes, and especially in the first five volumes or so, I would have had a hard time figuring out what was going on if I hadn't already seen the anime. And the plot and content of the anime follows the manga relatively closely; you aren't missing a lot by restricting yourself just to the anime series, if you choose. And, actually, this is not a series I'd recommend to people who don't read manga regularly. It has a lot of the manga conventions - the video-game style fight scenes and moves, chibis, etc. - that tend to turn people new to the genre off of manga. But I enjoy the series a lot. Ban and Ginji are incredibly adorable and so very obviously doing it that even some of the official art has them in, like, wedding garb. (And we won't even talk about the slashiness of the secondary characters; Kazuki and Juubei are, as far as I can tell, canonically a couple.) The world is interesting, the characterizations are fun - basically, this series is reading candy for the manga inclined.

I reread this one this week. It was one I remember fondly. The Librarian and the Rock Star aspect was good, but the son looking for his birth mother story line was just as strong. I enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to Rise, a new book by Bliss about Zander, brother to Devin in this book.
