I loved Philippa Gregory's Tudor series and thought i would give another one of hers ago. I didn't enjoy this at all. In fact I got half way through the book and realised I wasn't bothered about finding out what happened at the end and would quite happily have not picked it up again but I perservered. It was predictable, I guessed what was going to happen fairly near the beginning of the book so there was nothing to keep you wanting to read the book. It was uncomfortable to read as you knew things were going to get messy. It's a shame but I would not recommend it.

Dr. Michael Forsythe and his wife Polly have lost their nine year old daughter to an incurable disease, and in the aftermath of their grief they forget how to communicate with each other and drift apart. Michael keeps himself busy working as much as possible and not thinking about their daughter, while Polly thinks about her constantly and wants to talk about her and share memories of her. Then they find themselves looking after a four year old while her father is in the hospital. Michael enjoys the child, but Polly is ashamed that she cannot bring herself to actually like this child. This is a longer Harlequin, being a Superromance, and for the most part I just found it long and depressing. Happy ending of course, but it took forever to get to it.

This is an incredibly insightful look at how the entertainment-driven-ness of our society has developed and what the effects are of a society that thirsts to continuallty be entertained, especially by images (TV) verses books.
Hal becomes King Henry. He marries Katherine from France. He is no longer the boy he once was and his old friends lament that. Battles.

My mother read this book to my sister and me when we were children and I remember loving it then, but I must reread it before giving it a rating.

The story of Molly Petree, beginning with her diary as a 13-year-old in the 1870s in post-Civil War NC, following her through boarding school and ultimately to her adult life in the rural mountains, where she is accused of a horrible crime. The first third of the book was really difficult to get through (her diary entries are full of spelling and punctuation variations, as well as colloquialisms of the time and place), but after that, the book really had me sucked in. I really enjoyed the book as a whole, though it did take me a while to get through because of the first third.
