I love when YA books aren't condescending. This one is great, with a really authentic voice. I recommend it to all my reluctant readers.

I can't get enough of clever twists on the fairy tale genre, and this is where it started. The Enchanted Forest Chronicles are just ridiculously entertaining.

Finally, actual science applied to biblical archaeology. A great treatise on forming conclusions from the evidence rather than searching for evidence to support conclusions already determined.

this was a fun book, but I think it would be even more enjoyable if the reader had been to Animal Kingdom. In truth, I liked the first book better. I'll reserve judgement on the whole series until after they've all been read.

Dan Brown has to be the crappiest writer ever published. The only thing that kept me going while reading this trash was the concept itself (which I've heard Brown stole from another book). I do really appreciate his honesty about the history of Christianity and giving Mary Magdalene a little dignity. It was entertaining.

I confess.. a true wonder. This book took me to the wildest and most exciting of adventures at sea, it also helped me learn about what being a sailor really was at those times, and how hard it was to survive. I spent one afternoon reading this beauty, and fell in love with it.

Sometimes listed as an example of magic realism, but I'd say there's very little of that as compared to other books from the same region - "El Senor Presidente" and "One Hundred Years of Solitude" for example.

Keyes does an excellent job of demonstrating his understanding of anthropology and "primitive" cultures. A little too much, at times. That being said, the characters are believable and very detailed, and the setting is amazingly complex and well conceived. This is a good one -- a marriage of high fantasy and a more spirit-based religious system -- the novel has the basic fantasy tropes combined with a few new ideas. The flaw? It reads a bit like someone transcribed their Dungeons and Dragons game as a novel. It isn't quite as transparent as Dragons of Autumn Twilight, but there are a few jarring moments which seem like nods to some sort of inside joke we're not privy to. Also, a number of events seem to be attempting to explain a sort of "game mechanic." In any case -- this is a good read, well worth an aftenoon.
