the deeply moving, hard-hitting testimony of SABC correspondent to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. As a south african who grew up towards the end of the NP's time in power I found it illuminating and formed many of my opinions on the how, why of apartheid. It also threw up many more questions I have struggled to answer.

an great vampire romance book. not at all graphic, but it has a excellent story, cool characters, and snappy dialogue. All of L.J. smith's books are enjoyable, but this one is my personal favorite. a good fun read, nothing too heavy.

** spoiler alert ** Something went wrong with goodreads.com on my phone's webbrowser, so I couldn't open it and write a review today morning and all day, but here it is. This book is pretty good, it really held my attention. The plot is great only I didn't...really....?...to say it lacked something would be more correct. I wanted more passion in Jessica and Alex's relationship(corny!!! :D but true) It was just about how Jessiaca wanted to marry Alex, but he "couldn't" marry her, because he's a freaking idiot. WHY? Because he knew he won't be on Earth for long, so he didn't want to marry her to save her the griefing wife's character.....even though he just could have lived for the moment and made Jessica happy. I don't know what role played Austin...he didn't do anything big but talk to Jessica and make an asshole of himself. Emily is totally stupid girl if you ask me....she actually was jelous of Jessicas relationship with Alex, because she couldn't get that kind of love.....who could have thought that people can be so stupid! What Jessica had wasn't only that happy, sappy love and beautiful angel by her side, but boyfriend who won't be her husband and will "leave/die" soon, because of the pull from the other side(? LoL) And later she decided to go and find Cole so he would be her angel, even though he didn't love her and she knew it(deeeeep down) It was interesting to know the human side of Cole's life. He actually was a bad, crazy man when he was still alive, but I don't think he deserved the death he got....from his father. I think I wanted to see more of his bad side in this book, though. He just wasn't the same Cole. He didn't put up a fight when Jessica told him to go live his miserable afterlife(?) Anyhow, the books pace is fast and it's a light read. I enjoyed reading it, even though it didn't reach my anticipations........I have to admit, sequels sometimes aren't as good as the first book.

Good book. Good leisure time reading.
excellent foundation into the reasons why we do or don't understand product design.
Favorite Quotes She lived for others, her heart tuned to their anguish and their needs. His blue eyes were seas where sorrow sailed. Not one day in anyone’s life is an uneventful day, no day without profound meaning, no matter how dull and boring it might seem, no matter whether you are a seamstress or a queen, a shoeshine boy, or a movie star, a renowned philosopher or a Down’s-syndrome child. Because in every day of your life, there are opportunities to perform little kindnesses for others, both by conscious acts of will and unconscious example. Each smallest act of kindness—even just words of hope when they are needed, the remembrance of a birthday, a compliment that engenders a smile—reverberates across great distances and spans of time, affecting lives unknown to the one whose generous spirit was the source of this good echo, because kindness is passed on and grows each time it’s passed, until a simple courtesy becomes an act of selfless courage years later and far away. Likewise, each small meanness, each thoughtless expression of hatred, each envious and bitter act, regardless of how petty, can inspire others, and is therefore the seed that ultimately produces evil fruit, poisoning people whom you have never met and never will. All human lives are so profoundly and intricately entwined—those dead, those living, those generations yet to come—that the fate of all is the fate of each, and the hope of humanity rests in every heart and in every pair of hands. Therefore, after every failure, we are obliged to strive again for success, and when faced with the end of one thing, we must build something new and better in the ashes, just as from pain and grief, we must weave hope, for each of us is a thread critical to the strength—to the very survival of the human tapestry. Every hour in every life contains such often-unrecognized potential to affect the world that the great days and thrilling possibilities are combined always in this momentous day. In the healing ways of women that remained mysterious to [him] even as he watched them do their work, tears were followed by reminiscences that brought a smile and soothed, and hope was always found to be the flower that bloomed from every seed of hopelessness.

The first major novel I've read in a long time that seems to me truly mediocre. Not by coincidence, Fielding also seems to me the most resolutely and repugnantly masculinist of the 18th-century novelists. The authors of Pamela and Moll Flanders could never have perpetrated the outrages of this novel.

Set in the 1600s, witch-hunts, burning at the stake, hangings, etc. The next book I read is going to be a little more upbeat. :)

The academic in me loves reading fiction about devoted scholars, and since I'm also a hopeless romantic, I adored this book. Too bad academic life isn't always this exciting! If you saw the film and haven't read the novel, pick up the book - the movie was a horrible rendering and as with many film adaptations simply misses the layers, complexities, and beauty of the novel. If you haven't seen the film - don't.
I thought this was just wonderful! You definitely have to suspend disbelief, but it's worth it!
Comenzó a gustarme mucho pero se molestó mucho con la heroína. Para un ex cirujano y farmacólogo, ella era tan ingeniosa a veces. Algunas buenas descripciones aquí y personajes memorables en una trama familiar pero atractiva.
