This book takes you into a world you've yet been to. It sets you up in the Himalayans and drops you miles under the earth below Marianas trench. Great freakin' read. There is action, science, ghouls, even some crappy ass long story in the whole thing. I read this book once a year and it never gets old! There is a well thought out storyline the begins one character at a time, a great traverse across the middle of the book, and a climb to a killer ending. You need a book that reads like a movie, read this. By the way, the movie "The Descent" has nothing to do with this other than ripping off the initial plot of the book. Don't watch the movie if you read this book, only makes you mad.

The second of the duet, I love this book, but I am a HUGE sucker for romance. This books picks up a year after the end of the first when the country is trying to decide the new king. The countess now must go from her country bumpkin upbringing and figure out the workings of a court she has never been a part of. Anyone who loves a darcy/elizabeth type romance will love this.

This is a fascinating insider's look at a bizarre and dangerous American subculture. However, I had a difficult time keeping track of all the players, of which there are literally dozens, and their myriad list of real names and nicknames. The author, an undercover special agent, also includes hundreds of tiny details that slow the narrative down. I mean, do I really need to know exactly what he ordered every time he ate at the Waffle House (which was every few pages)? These may have been items he needed to include in his reports, but it wasn't necessary to bring them to the book page. In the end I'm glad I finished it, because it was very interesting in some parts, but now consider any curiosity I had about the Hell's Angels completely satisfied. Forever.

This is an amazing memoir that is honest in its description of what it was like and how Melba and the others had the strength to do what they did. Although it is a memoir Ms. Beals remembers the details, her preoccupations large and small. There is an Anne Frank like immediacy to an extraordinary situation.

I loved this introduction to the trilogy. I must read it again to read the scenes in Tom Bombadill's cottage. I did skip over a lot of the poetry but what a great story. Easier to follow if you get a map book.
